Drawn from the Grolier's permanent collections, the objects in this exhibition and catalogue range from a magnificent 12th-century manuscript of Gregory the Great's commentary on Job to recent artists' books and designer bookbindings. Highlights include manuscript and printed illuminated Books of Hours, early printed books, bindings from seven centuries, a letter from Jefferson to his Parisian bookseller, portrait prints of the great and the good, commemorative medals, and documents. Our patron saint, Jean Grolier, the "Prince of Bibliophiles," is honored with five of his books and three documents. George Fletcher's Essays on Criminal Law
This volume collects, for the first time, a selection of criminal law scholar George Fletcher's most famous previously published shorter works as well as some that are less known but equally important. Each of the twelve essays by Fletcher is paired with one or more new critical commentaries on that essay. These critical commentaries trace the impact of the respective essay in the development of the criminal law and assess its future significance.
Yassi Ada
This book forms a final report on the underwater excavations I directed at Yassi Ada, Turkey, during the summers of 1961 through 1964 for the University Museum of the University of Pennsylvania. The excavation was the first to have been completed on the floor of the Mediterranean of a wreck with substantial hull remains. This pioneering work required the ingenuity, effort, and generosity of many people and institutions. The seventh- century ship was chosen for primary excavation not only for its lesser depth, which allowed longer working dives, but also because Throckmorton had uncovered traces of its timbers just beneath the sand and because it was more intelligible from the outset: a stack of concreted iron anchors, lying across the cargo at its upper end, suggested the forward part of the ship pointing up the slope, toward Yassi Ada, while a mass of broken terra-cotta tiles and cooking ware suggested the galley--and, presumably, the stern--at the deeper end of the site.

George Fletcher is working on a new edition which will be published by OUP in three volumes, the first of which is scheduled to appear in January 2001. Rethinking Criminal Law is still perhaps the most influential and often cited theoretical work on American criminal law. This reprint will keep this classic work available until the new edition can be published.
