This book shows how to make decisions when alternatives depend on criteria, but also the criteria depend on the alternatives. It shows how to cope with dependence between different groups of people, goals and criteria. The Analytic Network Process is particularly useful to project the future of a group or company considering all the influences and risks: economic, social, political, technological, environmental, and others. Accompanying ANP software is under development.

Decision Making with the Analytic Network Process

The Analytic Network Process (ANP), developed by Thomas Saaty in his work on multicriteria decision making, applies network structures with dependence and feedback to complex decision making. This new edition of Decision Making with the Analytic Network Process is a selection of the latest applications of ANP to economic, social and political decisions, and also to technological design. The ANP is a methodological tool that is helpful to organize knowledge and thinking, elicit judgments registered in both in memory and in feelings, quantify the judgments and derive priorities from them, and finally synthesize these diverse priorities into a single mathematically and logically justifiable ove...

Protecting the Mind

This book offers a comprehensive analysis of philosophical, social, ethical, and legal challenges arising as a consequences of current advances in neurosciences and neurotechnology. It starts by offering an overview of fundamental concepts such as mental privacy, personal autonomy, mental integrity, and responsibility, among others. The current view among Western scholars of Islam concerning the early development of Islamic jurisprudence was shaped by Joseph Schacht’s famous study on the subject published 50 years ago. Since then new sources became available which make a critical review of his theories possible and desirable. This volume uses one of these sources to reconstruct the development of jurisprudence at Mecca, virtually unknown until now, from the beginnings until the middle of the second Islamic century. New methods of analysis are developed and tested in order to date the material contained in the earliest compilations of legal traditions more properly. As a result the origins of Islamic jurisprudence can be dated much earlier than claimed by Schacht and his school.

Strategic Management from an Islamic Perspective

Fascinating insights into modern strategic management from an Islamic perspective While strategic management is a cornerstone of any MBA program, it's almost always taught from conventional theories and typically American case studies. This book takes those traditional theories and interprets them from an Islamic perspective using more international case studies. Though primarily intended as a textbook for business students, the book is also extremely useful for any Muslim business leaders who want to transform their businesses while complying with Shariah, with a particular focus on developing corporate cultures and structures in sync with Islamic values. Offers a critical review of conventional strategic management theory, suggesting more effective alternatives based on a combination of conventional and Islamic theories Includes international case studies, each with a particularly Islamic angle Written by a successful author team that has written extensively on the subject of business management from an Islamic perspective
