Interactions between Animals and Humans in Graeco-Roman Antiquity
The seventeen contributions to this volume, written by leading experts, show that animals and humans in Graeco-Roman antiquity are interconnected on a variety of different levels and that their encounters and interactions often result from their belonging to the same structures, ‘networks’ and communities or at least from finding themselves together in a certain setting, context or environment – wittingly or unwittingly. Papers explore the concrete categories of interaction between animals and humans that can be identified, in what contexts they occur, and what types of evidence can be productively used to examine the concept of interactions. Articles in this volume take into account literary, visual, and other types of evidence. A comprehensive research bibliography is also provided.

For the exhibition BAU [ SPIEL ] HAUS, Neues Museum in Nuremberg, supported by the Bauhaus Today Fund of the German Federal Cultural Foundation, has issued an ambitious, three-part publication to mark the 100thanniversary of the Bauhaus school of design ? a catalog, a reader and an artist?s book. The concept for the project was produced by artist Olaf Nicolai, who, together with design studio Daily Dialogue (Maximilian Schachtner, Malin Schoenberg, Marie Damageux), was also responsible for the design. 00The catalog documents the exhibition curated by Thomas Hensel and Robert Eikmeyer, with its focus on the subject of play ? as a fundamental element of the creative process ? with more than 100 works from over 100 years. One particular highlight is the presentation by American artist Liam Gillick. The reader brings together more than XX texts by historical and contemporary international authors ? from Friedrich Fröbel to Bazon Brock. Modernism beyond the Human
One of the defining features of modernism lies in its far-reaching rethinking of the relation between the human and the non-human. In the present volume, this crucial aspect of modernism’s legacy is investigated from an authentically transnational perspective, taking an innovative stance on a diverse range of authors – from posthumanist classics such as Beckett and Woolf to Valentine de Saint-Point, Radoje Domanovic and Aldo Palazzeschi among others. On the one hand, this collection sheds new light on the modernist contribution to posthumanism, providing a valuable reference point for future studies on the topic. On the other, it offers a new take on the transnational dimension of modernism, highlighting unexplored convergences between modernist authors from several different national contexts.

The conventional history of animals could be more accurately described as the history of human ideas about animals. Only in the last few decades have scholars from a wide variety of disciplines attempted to document the lives of historical animals in ways that recognize their agency as sentient beings with complex intelligence. Joseph Beuys and the Celtic Wor(l)d
During the 1970s, the German sculptor Joseph Beuys made a number of trips to Ireland and Scotland. This interdisciplinary study of the artist's work in the "Celtic world" assesses whether the practice shown or developed during these visits could be seen, in any sense, as a language practice - more specifically, as a "language of healing" - and whether Beuys could be said to have interpreted and performed notions of "Celticity" in these places. The book reflects on the anthropological aspect of Beuys' work and includes interview material with artists who worked with or met him during this time.
