Hampir seluruh kawasan lahan di Kalimantan Timur berstatus kesuburan tanah rendah, siklus nutrisi berjalan cepat pada ekosistem hutan, lingkungan yang cocok bagi pertumbuhan pohon-pohonan, curah hujan yang cukup tinggi dan tanah mudah tererosi. Maka salah satu usaha untuk meningkatkan daya dukung lahan dan lingkungan tersebut perlu dijaga dan dilestarikan aspek biotiknya yaitu konsumer utama dan jasad perombak tetap terjaga keseimbangannya, serta biotik dalam tanah tidak terganggu sehingga proses perombakan bahan organik dan asosiasi biotik juga tanaman dalam keadaan baik. Komponen biologis tanah merupakan penyerap karbon yang sangat penting karena sekitar 57% kandungan biotik adalah karbon. Bahkan di gurun, cyanobacteria, lumut kerak dan lumut membentuk kerak tanah biologis yang menangkap dan menyerap sejumlah besar karbon melalui fotosintesis. Sehingga jamur perombak bahan organik perlu diisolasi sebagai keanekaragaman biodiversiti hutan.
