Mayaya Rising
Who are the Black heroines of Latin America and the Caribbean? Where do we turn for models of transcendence among women of African ancestry in the region? In answer to the historical dearth of such exemplars, Mayaya Rising explores and celebrates the work of writers who intentionally center powerful female cultural archetypes. In this inventive analysis, Duke proposes three case studies and a corresponding womanist methodology through which to study and rediscover these figures. The musical Cuban-Dominican sisters and former slaves Teodora and Micaela Ginés inspired Aida Cartagena Portalatin’s epic poem Yania tierra; the Nicaraguan matriarch of the May Pole, “Miss Lizzie,” figures prominently in four anthologies from the country’s Bluefields region; and the iconic palenqueras of Cartagena, Colombia are magnified in the work of poets María Teresa Ramírez Neiva and Mirian Díaz Pérez. A obra Saberes de Professoras AfroUniversitárias da LIESAFRO: memórias de práticas educativas afrocentradas intersubjetivas é resultado de pesquisa sobre saberes afrocentrados com objetivo de compreender possibilidades de práticas educativas afrocentradas no Curso de Licenciatura Interdisciplinar em Estudos Africanos e Afro-Brasileiros (LIESAFRO) da UFMA, a partir dos saberes das professoras afrodescendentes que atuam no curso. Posicionadas dentro do campo epistemológico da subjetivação e da intersubjetivação, desenvolvemos a metodologia da bricolagem científica inventando novos territórios. Os estudos sobre os saberes de professoras afrodescendentes do Curso LIESAFRO/UFMA é um convite à reflexão sobre as contribuições dos seus posicionamentos e engajamento político e social dentro do espaço acadêmico. Portanto, buscamos sistematizar os saberes de professoras AfroUniversitárias da LIESAFRO e promover discussão acerca de projetos de educação afrocentrada desenvolvido por mulheres afrodescendentes, dando visibilidade para a potência de sua agência na universidade!!!
