English Professional Theatre, 1530-1660

This volume explores the professional English theatre from 1530 to 1660. The documents collected here, many published for the first time, chronicle the exciting and flourishing world of the theatre through the reigns of Henry VIII to Charles I. These exciting primary sources offer first-hand accounts, including the daily life and work of the actor, and the most complete coverage yet of all the playhouses, both public and private, including the Rose, the Globe, Red Lion and the Swan. The volume documents the various theatre companies of children, costumes and stage property matters, audience reception and behaviour, and ecclesiastical and governmental legislation. A full linking narrative and extensive bibliography detailing the location of the primary sources, provide an important reference work and valuable research tool.

The scenes of this thrilling story vary from Havre and Paris, to the romantic islands of Polynesia, where the last threads of the plots are finally untangled. John Crane, a middle-aged man of wealth and adventure, is asleep on his ocean-going yacht in the Port of Havre, when he is unduly awakened in the wee small hours of the morning upon the insistance of an Englishman, just arrived from Paris by motor. The Englishman reveals himself as a friend of Martin Todd, an old pal of Crane's, who has agreed to help a group of Russian Noblemen in an endeavor to smuggle some valuable jewels out of Russia. Crane, of course, is eager to accept the jewels and guard them, although he is warned that Soviet agents will cause trouble. And thus the plot is launched. Next the scene shifts to the Paris Underworld, where Anne Walton, the daughter of a rich planter, is discovered on an errand of mercy. A gripping, hair-raising story.

Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing

Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing: The Field of Knowledge provides an analytical and critical introduction to the current state of knowledge in psychiatric and mental health nursing in the UK. The first section of the book explores current professional, disciplinary and educational contexts. In the second section leading UK authors from diverse academic settings provide case studies of the knowledge and scientific traditions they draw on to inform their practice, understand patient needs, and foster different aspects of nursing practice. In the final section the UK authors comment on each other’s accounts. Those chapters and comments are then discussed by leading overseas academics to provide an invaluable international perspective. The final stage is a sociologically-informed analysis which identifies sociopolitical trends in order to make sense of the UK and international views. The editor then assesses the potential for intellectual integration and collective advance in psychiatric and mental health nursing.
