He married Maria Goedela von Bismarck-Schönhausen, granddaughter of Otto von Bismarck. His son Arnold Keyserling was a renowned philosopher as well. He was born in Kõnnu Manor, Pärnu County in Governorate of Livonia, Russian Empire, now in Estonia.
