- Modernist paintings with a Scandinavian touch - First monograph about Thorvald Hellesen - An artist from the avant-garde circle of Pablo Picasso, Constantin Brancusi and Piet Mondrian Thorvald Hellesen (1888-1937) was a Norwegian avant-garde artist who lived and worked in Paris in the 1910s and 1920s. He and his wife, the French artist Hélène Perdriat, were part of a circle of artists that included Pablo Picasso, Fernand Léger, Constantin Brâncusi, Piet Mondrian, Theo van Doesburg, and many others. In his short yet intense life, Thorvald Hellesen created an impressive unique oeuvre, oriented on Modernism, consisting of oil paintings, watercolors, gouaches, drawings, design projects, and textiles. Nevertheless, even in Norway he is only known to a few. With this publication the authors Dag Blakkisrud, Matthew Drutt, and Hilde Mørch have created a written portrait of Hellesen. In addition to classifying him within the history of art, they try to find explanations as to why his artistic practice is only now being considered important and interesting for Norwegian and international art history.

Ryszard Warsinski har påvirket flere norske kunstnere med sitt surrealistiske, burleske og frie forhold til ord og bilde, hans utradisjonelle kunstsyn, hans eksperimenterende teknikk og bruk av materialer. Likevel ble han av sin samtid oppfattet som fremmedartet og provoserende. "Det uløselige paradokset som synliggjøres ved sammensmeltningen av det skjønne og det heslige, det tidsoverskridende og det forgjengelige, det opphøyde og det banale. Her er en kunstner som hadde som livsprosjekt å forsøkte å gripe det ugripbare. Men for å få det til benyttet han seg av det han hadde forhånden: de kunstneriske uttrykksmidlene han hadde så full beherskelse over. Og de omfattende kulturhistoriske ressursene han var så fortrolig med".
Charlotte Wankel og l'esprit nouveau
Kunstner Charlotte Wankel vokste opp på Kambo utenfor Moss. Fra 1910 studerte hun under Henri Matisse i Paris, og her inngikk hun i avantgarde-miljøet med kunstnere som Picasso, Le Corbusier, Ernst og Ozenfant. På denne tiden malte Wankel i strengt geometriske og nøkterne former. Etter første verdenskrig forlot hun kubismen til fordel for det nonfigurative, abstrakte maleriet.
