The jewels of nature project was begun in 1998 by Gordon K. Hanley and was designed to raise support for parrot conservation. Volume 1 of The parrots contains paintings of parrots from around the world by Gordon K. Hanley. Two pages of illustrations are devoted to each parrot, one showing the whole bird, or, part of the bird and the other showing the parrot (often the male and female) in habitat. There is also a page of text describing each parrot, the habits, current locations, and if threatened, or, endangered. Limited ed. : 68/2000.
