The letters and diaries of those who fought in World War 1 reveal much about the incredibly brave and stoic men who risked all for the sake of their nation. This book chronicles the war experience of my grandfather, Major Hugh Venables Vernon (afterwards promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel), as described in letters he wrote to his wife, Mary, whilst serving with the 1st Light Horse Regiment AIF during 1914-1915. Like many others serving in the Great War he documented his experience as an aide-memoire and to inform Mary who worked tirelessly to support those serving in the Regiment during the war years.
