Health Diplomacy in Africa
The purpose of this book is to project diplomacy as an unavoidable instrument for monitoring, prevention and control of health and disaster risks among African countries. The book advocates health cooperation in Africa at a time when pandemics are recurrent. Outside of the WHO, many countries, even within regional groupings have not actively pursued health cooperation. We intend this book to provide the basis for advocating the inclusion of health diplomacy in the curricula of the training of the African diplomat with the hope to stimulate gradual policy shifts in foreign ministries, regional groupings, and the African Union.
Environment, Agriculture and Cross-border Migrations
This book brings together contributions on the challenges of the environment, agriculture and cross-border migrations in Africa; key areas that have become critical for the continent’s development. The central theme running through these contributions is that Africa’s development challenges can be attributed to its human and natural ecology. Contrasted with the Cold War epoch, current developments have ushered us into a world of long and uncertain transitions characterized by a search for new pathways including investment in large-scale agriculture by big finance, attempts to revitalize existing agriculture and reworking of social policy. A major twist relates to environmental questions, especially climate change and its global effects, leading to all forms of cross-border migrations and the emergence of new areas of strategic interest such as sub-regional developments as in the Gulf of Guinea. This book provides some intellectual clues on how to interpret these emerging predicaments and chart a way forward into a new era for Africa.
Negotiating the Livelihoods of Children and Youth in Africa's Urban Spaces
Provides a collection of essays that draw attention to urban environments, such as high unemployment, inadequate housing, poor services, and often extreme poverty, in which children and youth have to live and survive. Looks at poor to middle-class communities in African cities (in Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Congo, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, Zimbabwe), and illustrates how young people find ways not only of surviving, but also of enjoying themselves.

L'industrialisation par le bas : une autre passerelle de la construction du développement économique au Cameroun
Depuis son indépendance, l'État du Cameroun a impulsé la création de plusieurs unités industrielles afin de développer son économie. Sauf que l'industrialisation par le haut, si elle se voulait mieux encadrée pour échapper aux abus du capital, se heurte néanmoins à l'inefficacité de son modèle économique, à des conflits sociaux sur les lieux d'implantation, à la survivance des pratiques coloniales. Il faut penser différemment l'interaction entre l'industrie africaine et son territoire d'opération. Les neuf articles de ce premier volume des mélanges offerts à la professeure Aurore Sara Sophie Ngo Balépa ont approfondi une pansée de la remédiation du développement au sein de la géographie, l'industrialisation par le bas.
