Ms. นางแอ่น เจียรวนนท์ (Nangaen Chearavanont, 8th November, 1928 to ), a.k.a.: Tse Yin (謝燕), edited this book as a sequel to Mr. Wong Yin Ching (黃燕清)’s earlier work “Hong Kong Stories (香港掌故)” (1958), she added English explanations, further information and new contents, photographs, diagrams and maps, let new generation easily to understand the Hong Kong real life from 1900s to 1950s.
A History of Chinese Philosophy
Since its original publication in Chinese in the 1930s, this work has been accepted by Chinese scholars as the most important contribution to the study of their country's philosophy. In 1952 the book was published by Princeton University Press in an English translation by the distinguished scholar of Chinese history, Derk Bodde, "the dedicated translator of Fung Yu-lan's huge history of Chinese philosophy" (New York Times Book Review). Available for the first time in paperback, it remains the most complete work on the subject in any language. Volume I covers the period of the philosophers, from the beginnings to around 100 B.C., a philosophical period as remarkable as that of ancient Greece. As Dr Needham's immense undertaking gathers momentum it has been found necessary to subdivide volumes into parts, each to be bound and published separately. The first part of Volume 4, already published, deals with the physical sciences; the second with the diverse applications of physics in the many branches of mechanical engineering; and the third will deal with civil and hydraulic engineering and nautical technology.
