The International Society for Education through Art (INSEA) is an international professional voluntary organization that is committed to the study and improvement of art education throughout the world. This important international society was a direct outgrowth of a seminar convened by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization. The conceptual founder of the organization was the distinguished Sir Herbert Read, and the first President was Dr. Edwin Ziegfeld. This study resulted in a history of the origin and development of INSEA. The study focused on the first administration, which lasted a decade, and also looked at the affect it had on succeeding administrations. The data for this study was collected, for the first time, from all around the globe. It was determined, upon examining these documents, that the major strength of the society was in how it had been originally structured. A special model was developed to analyze how INSEA functioned as an organization. In summary, the study analyzed the Edwin Ziegfeld decade--the various threads that had been woven together over the last thirty-five years to form the fabric of the present organization.
