Concepts of Combinatorial Optimization, Volume 1
Combinatorial optimization is a multidisciplinary scientific area, lying in the interface of three major scientific domains: mathematics, theoretical computer science and management. The three volumes of the Combinatorial Optimization series aims to cover a wide range of topics in this area. These topics also deal with fundamental notions and approaches as with several classical applications of combinatorial optimization. Concepts of Combinatorial Optimization, is divided into three parts: On the complexity of combinatorial optimization problems, that presents basics about worst-case and randomized complexity; Classical solution methods, that presents the two most-known methods for solving hard combinatorial optimization problems, that are Branch-and-Bound and Dynamic Programming; Elements from mathematical programming, that presents fundamentals from mathematical programming based methods that are in the heart of Operations Research since the origins of this field.

Meta-heuristics have developed dramatically since their inception in the early 1980s. They have had widespread success in attacking a variety of practical and difficult combinatorial optimization problems. These families of approaches include, but are not limited to greedy random adaptive search procedures, genetic algorithms, problem-space search, neural networks, simulated annealing, tabu search, threshold algorithms, and their hybrids. Wenn jemand einen Bunker aufsucht, ist entweder Krieg oder es muss einen anderen besonderen Grund dafür geben. Dass am 03. Oktober 2008, dem Tag der Deutschen Einheit, und dem folgenden Wochenende die Menschen scharenweise in den Bunker unterhalb der Godesburg kamen, lag daran, dass Künstlerinnen und Künstler des Kunstvereins Bad Godesberg dieses Relikt aus dem 2. Weltkrieg in einen Musentempel verwandelt und wieder öffentlich gemacht hatten. Mit dem Thema "Krieg und Frieden" setzten sich die Kunstschaffenden bildnerisch, literarisch und musikalisch kritisch auseinander, ebenso kamen Zeitzeugen zu Wort. Lässt uns der Frieden, das Glück, eher sprachlos werden? Diese Frage stellt sich, da bei den Werken der Krieg überwog. Dennoch sind die Gedanken für die Zukunft offen, das bedeutet: Keinen Stillstand bei dem bisher Geschaffenem, denn den darf es in der Kunst auch nicht geben. Das Buch ist eine Dokumentation der ersten Veranstaltung KULTURBUNKERKUNST, der noch weitere Projekte folgen sollen.
