Twenty-four years after his death, the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen is paying homage to the artist, educator and political activist Joseph Beuys (1921-1986) in Düsseldorf, the city with which he is primarily associated. Andrea Büttner verbindet in ihrer künstlerischen Praxis Kunstgeschichte mit sozialen und ethischen Fragen. Seit den frühen 2000er-Jahren schafft die international renommierte Künstlerin Bilder zu Themen wie Arbeit, Armut, Scham und Fürsorge in klösterlichen Formen des Zusammenlebens, aber auch zum Kunsthandwerk als politisches Feld. Zur Sichtbarmachung dieser Themen, die sie immer wieder hinsichtlich ihres Spannungsverhältnisses von Ästhetik und Ethik untersucht, verwendet sie eine große Fülle von künstlerischen Ausdrucksmitteln.
