Wartime Bombing Decoys in Wales

Ivor Jones' new book vividly describes the cunning nighttime decoys which saved Cardiff, and indeed Wales itself, from German bombings during the Second World War. By distorting what the German bombers could see from the air, the Ministry of Home Security was successful in averting hundreds and thousands of bombs from residential areas of the country. False 'lights' were created to mislead German bombers in search of targets; during the blackout, the ministry placed these lights in open countryside, or around the coast. Superbly illustrated with photographs and maps, this is a fascinating insight into a previously overlooked aspect of the Second World War.

Give Up

Do sugar-coated lies and cliché photos actually motivate you to do better? Of course not! If you want to get ahead in life, you need to know how things really work. You need posters that reveal the cold, hard truth. You need to be demotivated. By offering demotivational messages accompanied by ridiculous images, the author turns the motivational message upside down with very funny results. Faux versions of the kitschy motivational poster are already a wildly popular Internet phenomenon, but never have they been done with such savage humor as in this book. The author offers a variety of entertaining options, such as a baseball player eating dirt while missing a fly ball paired with the caption "Humiliation: There's no Point Trying, You Just Look Ridiculous." Another poster pairs a distressed surgeon with, "Failure: Sometimes it is a Matter of Life and Death."

You're mugged on the street. Your sister is attacked in her home. The police are powerless. What would you do? This is England. Gang violence is on the rise and people live in fear. After ex-solder-turned-preacher Ivor Jones is attacked, he decides to take matters into his own hands. Gathering together a group of like-minded citizens, Ivor forms the Cromwell Movement, inspired by his rebel hero Oliver Cromwell. Ivor and the Movement start to hit back at the gangs that have ruled their streets for too long, but, as with Cromwell, sometimes the best intentions lead to shocking results. After all, absolute power corrupts absolutely . . .
