What are the long-term implications of the Bush Administration's plans for defense? What level of resources might be needed to execute those plans? If they were carried out, what would the Administration's plans imply about the size, composition, and age of future U.S. military forces? This study addresses those questions. It projects the long-term implications of today's defense plans for both resources and forces. This objective, impartial study makes no recommendations. Includes over 50 charts, graphs and tables.

Review of Department of Defense Test Protocols for Combat Helmets

Combat helmets have evolved considerably over the years from those used in World War I to today's Advanced Combat Helmet. The Department of Defense is continuing to invest in research to improve helmet performance, through better design and materials as well as better manufacturing processes. Review of the Department of Defense Test Protocols for Combat Helmets considers the technical issues relating to test protocols for military combat helmets. Growth in Medical Spending by the Department of Defense

From FY 1988 to 2003, the Dept. of Defense's (DoD's) spending on medical care almost doubled in real terms. That growth occurred despite large reductions in the size of the active-duty military force & a substantial reduction in the size of the military's own hospital system. This study examines the reasons for those increases & considers directions for the future. Already, DoD's total spending on health care is more than half as large as its cash compensation. Looking forward, this analysis examines how overall growth of health care costs in the economy could affect DoD's health care costs through 2020, as well as how changes in benefits could do so. This study makes no recommendations. Charts, tables & graphs.
