Presents recent developments in the areas of differential equations, dynamical systems, and control of finke and infinite dimensional systems. Focuses on current trends in differential equations and dynamical system research-from Darameterdependence of solutions to robui control laws for inflnite dimensional systems.
This text introduces the subject of rheology in terms understandable to non-experts and describes the application of rheological principles to many industrial products and processes.

In summary, the author has provided an elegant introduction to important topics in the theory of ordinary differential equations and integral equations. -- Mathematical Reviews This book is intended for a one-semester course in differential and integral equations for advanced undergraduates or beginning graduate students, with a view toward preparing the reader for graduate-level courses on more advanced topics. There is some emphasis on existence, uniqueness, and the qualitative behavior of solutions. Students from applied mathematics, physics, and engineering will find much of value in this book. The first five chapters cover ordinary differential equations. Chapter 5 contains a good treat...
This IMA Volume in Mathematics and its Applications NONLINEAR EVOLUTION EQUATIONS THAT CHANGE TYPE is based on the proceedings of a workshop which was an integral part of the 1988-89 IMA program on NONLINEAR WAVES. The workshop focussed on prob lems of ill-posedness and change of type which arise in modeling flows in porous materials, viscoelastic fluids and solids and phase changes. We thank the Coordinat ing Committee: James Glimm, Daniel Joseph, Barbara Lee Keyfitz, Andrew Majda, Alan Newell, Peter Olver, David Sattinger and David Schaeffer for planning and implementing an exciting and stimulating year-long program. We especially thank the workshop organizers, Barbara Lee Keyfitz and Mich...
This book contributes to the mathematical theory of systems of differential equations consisting of the partial differential equations resulting from conservation of mass and momentum, and of constitutive equations with internal variables. The investigations are guided by the objective of proving existence and uniqueness, and are based on the idea of transforming the internal variables and the constitutive equations. A larger number of constitutive equations from the engineering sciences are presented. The book is therefore suitable not only for specialists, but also for mathematicians seeking for an introduction in the field, and for engineers with a sound mathematical background.
