Deriving from the New York newspaper The Shamrock or Hibernian Chronicle, Passengers from Ireland includes all data published on immigrants during the entire seven-year run of the paper and presents the lists in their original format so that family groupings are readily apparent. In substance, it comprises passenger lists for the whole period 1811 to August 1817, supplying information on over 7,000 travelers, such as name of the passenger (sometimes listed with his parish or county of former residence), name of the vessel, name of the ship's captain, length of journey, port of departure, port and date of arrival, and additional remarks concerning such untoward experiences on the high seas as seizure and impressment.

Models of Social Intervention
This book addresses several fundamental aspects of social work practice. From a qualitative and exploratory perspective, the book analyses pre-professional practices in the formation of social workers by contrasting the perspectives of students, institutional supervisors and university lecturers. Areas of opportunity in training are identified, such as handling personal and family crises of high conflict, the lack of specialised knowledge according to intervention areas, and limited participation in technical processes. The book proposes strengthening communication, mediation and emotional support skills, as well as incorporating optional courses and specific diplomas to fill these gaps. Methodologically, the book is based on semi-structured interviews and focus groups, allowing a systemic understanding of the educational phenomenon from the voice of the main actors. Fuelled by a distrust of big media and the development of mobile technologies, the resulting convergence of journalism praxis (professional to alternative), workflows (analogue to multipoint digital) and platforms (PC to mobile), result in a 24-hour always-on content cycle. The information revolution is a paradigm shift in the way we develop and consume information, in particular the type we call news. While many see this cultural shift as ruinous, Burum sees it as an opportunity to utilize the converging information flow to create a galvanizing and common digital language across spheres of communication: community, education and mainstream media.
