The Surplus of Culture
This multifaceted volume presents the elusive surplus of culture in the spotlight of theory and academic practice. Despite its overtly economic implications, the concept alludes to the added value of sense, common sense and nonsense which is represented as languages of irony, irrationality and absurdity potentially subverting traditional and mainstream “regimes” of culture. Consequently, the “moment of surplus” is inherent in critical interpretation in which supposedly well-entrenched notions suddenly reveal their implicitly shattering and subversive nature. The surplus of culture dwells at the risky intersection of untamed interpretation and tradition. It is the space of the “third” in which literary canons are re-visited, language reveals its hidden political agendas, the Orient reclaims its own cognitive perspective and established structures of cognition are questioned in the tragic-comic gesture of insight. Justice and Democracy in Brazil
This book details the struggle to establish and maintain democracy and justice in Brazil after 2000. From 1964 to 1984, Brazil had a dictatorship, which was followed by democratic elections. Later, from 2003 to 2016, the nation enjoyed a very popular and democratic government under President Lula and President Dilma, who created many social and educational programs that raised 32 million people out of extreme poverty. However, as this book highlights, since 2013, the nation has witnessed the rise of a very conservative movement, which led to the impeachment of President Dilma (2016), to the imprisonment of President Lula (2018) and to the election of a right-wing president, who represented a decline in democracy and rights from 2018 to 2022. In 2022, we had new elections, with the victory of President Lula, who took office on January 1, 2023. This book advocates for a new period in Brazilian politics, with full democracy, respect for the rule of law and social justice.

Democracia Agonística e Normatividade Comum
O livro Democracia agonística e normatividade comum defende uma base "normativa comum" para o projeto de uma democracia agonística cosmopolita. Ao analisar a teoria democrática agonística de Chantal Mouffe, observa-se que ela carece de uma base normativa comum que oriente a cidadania democrática na arena política contemporânea. A partir das contribuições da ?loso?a da linguagem do segundo Wittgenstein, a obra considera que a democracia liberal é uma "prática social" ou "forma de vida" que, por sua vez, tem uma "gramática profunda", cujas normas são regidas por regras linguísticas que orientam o agir político da cidadania democrática engajada nas sociedades contemporâneas. Para isso, torna-se necessária então uma "normatividade comum", a saber: a normatividade política, jurídica e valorativa, como "pano de fundo" das práticas sociais do projeto de uma democracia agonística cosmopolita.
