Aquest volum ha estat publicat en homenatge a Francesc Castelló, professor del Departament de Filologia Semítica de la Universitat de Barcelona. Les Geografies apleguen tant articles d’història de la geografia medieval en sentit ampli, disciplina científica a la qual l’homenatjat va dedicar bona part de la seva recerca i docència, com també geografies simbòliques: literàries, filosòfiques i arqueològiques, cartografiades per quinze autors que van compartir experiències i interessos acadèmics amb ell. El llibre té la virtut de recuperar, a més, tres articles de referència del mateix Castelló, que han estat reeditats com a mostra de la seva contribució ineludible als estudis de semítica.
