Advances in Cryogenic Engineering

In recent years, the technology of cryogenic comminution has been widely applied in the field of chemical engineering, food making, medicine production, and particularly in recycling of waste materials. Because of the increasing pollution of waste tires and the shortage of raw rubber resource, the recycling process for waste rubber products has become important and commercially viable. This technology has shown a great number of advantages such as causing no environmental pollution, requiring low energy consumption and producing high quality products. Hence, the normal crusher which was used to reclaim materials, such as waste tires, nylon, plastic and many polymer materials at atmospheric 1...

Advances in Cryogenic Engineering

The Hyatt Regency Hotel, Columbus, Ohio was the venue for the 1995 Cryogenic Engineering Conference. The meeting was held jointly with the International Cryogenic Materials Conference. Jim Peeples, of CVI, Inc., was conference chairman. Columbus is the home of the Battelle Memorial Institute, a pioneer in cryogenic materials development; the home of CVI, Inc., and Lake Shore Cryotronics, Inc., two leading manufacturers of cryogenic equipment; and it is the home of Ohio State University, where research on liquid helium has long been conducted. The program consisted of 315 CEC papers, nearly the same number as for CEC-91. This was the second largest number of papers ever submitted to the CEC. ...

Advances in Cryogenic Engineering

Colorado Springs, Colorado, spectacularly located at the foot of Pike's Peak, was the site of the joint 1983 Cryogenic Engineer ing Conference - International Cryogenic Materials Conference. Over 300 papers were presented at the two conferences on a variety of cryogenic science and engineering topics. Volume 29 of Advances in Cryogenic Engineering contains 116 of the papers presented at the 1983 Cryogenic Engineering Confer ence. Each paper was comprehensively peer reviewed to maintain the international reputation of the series as the premier archival medium in the field of cryotechnology. I would like to thank both authors and reviewers for their assistance in the preparation of this volume...

Advances in Cryogenic Engineering

All papers have been peer reviewed. The International Cryogenic Materials Conference covers the development and properties of insulation and structural materials used to construct cryogenic devices and for cryogenic applications. It also deals with the study of low and high temperature superconducting materials that are used in wire form for conductor applications such as cables for high field magnets, motors, transmission lines, transformers, and fault current limiters, for thin film applications in electronic devices, and bulk form for levitation and applications. One session was devoted to the new magnesium boride (MgB2) superconductors.

Architectural Science and the Sun synthesizes physics, climate, program, and perception to provide a foundation in the principles of architectural science related to the sun: solar geometry, solar analysis and design techniques, passive design principles, and daylighting. Part analytical handbook, part inspiration source for schematic design, the content comprises a critical component of effective sustainable design. Beyond the purely technical aspects of these topics, Architectural Science and the Sun begins with the premise that great architecture goes beyond energy performance and the visual-aesthetic to engage all of the senses. Given that the stimuli to which our senses respond are physical phenomena such as light, heat, and sound, the designer must manipulate these parameters through the craft of building form and technology to create the desired qualitative experience. This book is designed to help the reader develop that skill.
