It supports the view that the institutional adaptation of both assemblies to European affairs is largely superficial as it lacks a genuine involvement from members of parliament. Global security
This report, from the Foreign Affairs Committee, examines the issue of global security in respect of Russia. It sets out 40 conclusions and recommendations covering the following areas: democracy and human rights; the bilateral UK-Russia relationship; energy security; EU-Russia relations; European security issues; international security issues. Specific recommendations from the Committee include: that the UK should continue to press its concerns about democratic and human rights standards with the Russian authorities; that the Government should continue to offer assistance to Russia in the preparation of extradition requests to the UK and in the development of the country's judicial system; further that the Government invites its Russian counterpart to renegotiate extradition arrangements between Russia and the UK; the Committee also recommends that the Government make the development of a united and coherent EU Russia policy an explicit goal of its work in the EU in 2008; also that the Government work to bring closer together the Western and Russian assessments of the Iranian nuclear threat.

L'émancipation des femmes, dans la plupart des pays du monde, semble marquer le pas ; leur marche vers l'égalité paraît le plus souvent entravée. L'élan de la décennie précédente se brise sur la montée des intégrismes religieux, et la violence spécifique des conflits armés à l'égard des femmes. Partout dans le monde, la pauvreté a un visage de femme. L'année du cinquantenaire de la Déclaration universelle des droits de l'Homme, et le 8 mars - journée internationale des Femmes, qui exalte leur combat pour la reconnaissance de leurs droits, la Commission des Affaires étrangères a souhaité rendre publique une enquête réalisée dans 123 pays, par nos ambassades. La réalité du sort réservé à la moitié de l'humanité par des États, dont la plupart ont ratifié la Convention des Nations Unies sur l'élimination de toute forme de discrimination à l'égard des femmes, est souvent décevante. Seules les politiques volontaristes, ciblées, protectrices des femmes et défendues par elles, sont efficaces, et doivent être soutenues au nom de l'universalité de leurs droits.
