This book is the first volume of proceedings from the joint conference X International Symposium “Quantum Theory and Symmetries” (QTS-X) and XII International Workshop “Lie Theory and Its Applications in Physics” (LT-XII), held on 19–25 June 2017 in Varna, Bulgaria. The QTS series was founded on the core principle that symmetries underlie all descriptions of quantum systems. It has since evolved into a symposium at the forefront of theoretical and mathematical physics. The LT series covers the whole field of Lie theory in its widest sense, together with its applications in many areas of physics. As an interface between mathematics and physics, the workshop serves as a meeting place...
Phytotherapy is probably the oldest form of medicine; however, it represents a new therapeutic tool for healthcare workers. Indeed plants are an infinite source of novel molecules, with countless possible combinations. This collection of articles (a Special Issue from Molecules) brings together the most up-to-date studies on the use of plant-derived compounds, ranging from their anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer effects to the revision of the prominent literature.
The success of any business relies heavily on the evaluation and improvement on current strategies and processes. Such progress can be facilitated by implementing more effective decision-making systems. Highlighting pivotal research perspectives on topics such as trade, sourcing strategies, and corporate social responsibility, this book is ideally designed for academics, practitioners, graduate students, and professionals interested in the economic performance of emerging markets.
This volume closely reflects the international, interdisciplinary and integrative conception of the Summer Academy "Energy and the Environment". In the third year of its existence, participants contributed a remarkable number of excellent contributions, necessitating publication in two separate volumes. The first part of this present volume explores challenges currently faced under the flexibility mechanisms of the Kyoto Protocol, notably their efficiency and their role for developing countries in a future climate regime. The second half is devoted to the wider range of policies and measures, with topics as diverse as the promotion of renewable energy, the measurement of energy efficiency, and the exploration of legal aspects of innovative - yet also controversial - Carbon Capture and Sequestration technologies. Well-rounded and accessible, this volume provides an informative canvas of the broader debate on available instruments to mitigate climate change.
This book is the second volume of the proceedings of the joint conference X. International Symposium “Quantum Theory and Symmetries” (QTS-X) and XII. International Workshop “Lie Theory and Its Applications in Physics” (LT-XII), 19–25 June 2017, Varna, Bulgaria. The QTS series started around the core concept that symmetries underlie all descriptions of quantum systems. It has since evolved into a symposium on the frontiers of theoretical and mathematical physics. The LT series covers the whole field of Lie Theory in its widest sense together with its applications in many facets of physics. This book analyzes the foundations and means of overcoming the current crisis in the broader area of Southeast Europe. The contributions make proposals from both theoretical and empirical points of view and discuss the concept, determinants and policies of competitiveness in these countries. The financial crisis became a prolonged fiscal crisis, a bank confidence crisis, and economic recession, and the book discusses the European and national policies implemented to resolve it. It also investigates the internal conflicts generated by institutional arrangements and policy measures, both within the nation states and the eurozone. Economic competitiveness is a key topic for policymakers, as they have to secure economic growth and improve their populations’ standards of living. This volume sheds light on what constitutes economic competitiveness, as well as on the policies and economic and institutional structures that improve competitiveness.

This book contains invited lectures and shorter contributions to the workshop 'Mathematical, Theoretical and Phenomenological Challenges Beyond the Standard Model: Perspectives of the Balkan Collaborations' (BW2003), which was held in Vrnjacka Banja, Serbia, 29 August - 3 September. It was one of the first high-level HEP workshops in the South-East European region after many years, and the papers give a clear perspective on the scientific potential of this area. The contributions cover topics and problems under research in high-energy particle physics and quantum field theory, in particular: string theory and M-theory; grand unification; quantum gravity and cosmology; standard and noncommutat...
