Like a good physician, Dr. Jerald Daffe has placed his fingers on the current pulse of the Church and has run a series of tests. His diagnosis is that as Christ's body in the twenty-first century, we're sick-perhaps even teminally ill in some areas-and we son't even know it. The good news is that because this is Christ's church, the power of God's Spirit can work with us to change our condition. Or, to use Dr. Daffe's metaphor, the Church is naked does not quite realize it-but he is not afraid to point to our unclother condition and expose our need. However, this is not a disinterested physician who revels in dispensing discouraging news. No, indeed! This is one whose own love for God and the Church can be read through his imaginative words and between the lines as well. His pusle beats for the revival and refmation of the Church today.

Mission of the Church

What is the mission of the corporate church? What is the mission of local churches regardless of denominations? What is the reason for the existence of the local church? These three questions not only deserve consideration by leadership but also need to be understood by the entire membership to enable productive kingdom work. It is so easy for a congregation to develop programs and activities based on what other groups are doing or on what are the perceived needs of the moment. These do have value; however, they tend to be based on our human concepts rather than the directives of Scripture. Terry Cross, Dean of the School of Religion at Lee University, describes this book as follows: “Anot...

The challenges men face today are real and they are daunting. But they can be met successfully, Professor Jerald Daffe says it this exciting new book for men and about men. Dr. Daffe writes clearly about society's distorted images of males, but he does more. He tells men of God how to counteract those images and how to realize the exciting joy of living a Christ-exalting life through the power of the Holy Spirit. The seven challenges the author talks about are self-identity, immaturity, temptation, responsibility, vocation, marriage, and guilt. The greatest challenge is to be a man of God. Simply, without arrogance or pretense, men can find solutions to life's dilemmas, the author says, by trusting in Jesus, the perfect Man. "He comes, covers us, and moves us solid ground. There's nothing else ...to do but to be pliable in His hands."

In the Face of Evil

"True faith is not wishful thinking, feelings, or even the key to receiving the things we want, " says Jerald Daffe. He relates the experiences of the prophet Habakkuk to our day and shows that by applying the same principles we can indeed find faith in the face of evil.

The world hurts. Mankind is sick. Families are fractured. Men and women are in desperate need of a Savior. The s, cere prayer of millions of hearts and thousands of churches around the world is "Lord, send revival!" What about you? Do you really hunger for revival? If the answer is yes, then there are two follow-up questions: (1) Do you understand the Biblical and historical patterns of revival? (2) Are you willing to pay the price that revival demands? This book goes much deeper than simply defining terms. In his unique, easy-to-read, but scholarly style, Jerald Daffe addresses the relevant issues that must be examined in order for the church in America to truly experience revival. His understanding of, and dedication to, the principles of truth that have been revealed by God in Scripture, and in His sending of true spiritual revival to mankind throughout history, give this book a dimension of Biblical and historical scholarship that is difficult to find today.

The Influence of Music on the Development of the Church of God (Cleveland, Tennessee)

This book examines the influence of music on the development of the Church of God (Cleveland, Tennessee). This narrative is historically driven, but relies upon an interdisciplinary approach to draw on the insights of ecclesiology, theology, liturgiology, church development, and especially music. This study utilizes a chronological and systematic approach to the relationship between music and the Church of God in the United States during the first 125 years of the denomination’s history, from 1886 to 2011. For over a century, music has been an often-neglected dialogue partner at the table of academic discussion and this research argues for recognition and a proper place in Pentecostal history. Along with primary and secondary sources, the important element of “living archives” is investigated in this work; these are interviews with people who participated in historical music events in the Church of God. The book also relies upon musical examples to explore the influence of music upon the shaping of the denomination’s history and theology.
