K-architecture

This book offers an exploration of the lesser-known aspects of this dynamically changing field, starting with a look at the paradigmatic forms of traditional architecture before moving on to examining the issues and currents that have unfolded in architecture as it developed on Korean soil in the era of postmodernism?and began to find its way into the world. Immunological Aspects of Emerging and Re-emerging Zoonoses

Zoonosis is an infectious disease that has jumped from non-human animals to humans. To date, more than 200 known types of zoonoses have been identified, and 60% of emerging infectious diseases are zoonotic. It is estimated that zoonoses are responsible for 2.5 billion cases of human illness and 2.7 million human deaths worldwide each year, and 50-60% of the global population (5–6 billion) are projected to be at risk of zoonotic infections. Emerging and re-emerging zoonoses, such as monkeypox, Ebola, SARS, MERS, Zika, Rickettsia, and Mycobacteria, pose an immense and growing threat to global health, economy, and safety. As of September 26, 2022, there have been more than 600 million cases confirmed with COVID-19, and 6,514,397 deaths occurred due to this highly communicable disease. Identification of the immunological aspects of emerging and re-emerging zoonoses may facilitate the diagnosis, vaccine, and therapeutics development of emerging and re-emerging zoonoses.

At Dwell, we're staging a minor revolution. We think that it's possible to live in a house or apartment by a bold modern architect, to own furniture and products that are exceptionally well designed, and still be a regular human being. We think that good design is an integral part of real life. And that real life has been conspicuous by its absence in most design and architecture magazines.

Cultures of Yusin

Cultures of Yusin examines the turbulent and yet deeply formative years of Park Chung Hee’s rule in South Korea, focusing on the so-called Yusin era (1972–79). Beginning with the constitutional change that granted dictatorial powers to the president and ending with his assassination, Yusin was a period of extreme political repression coupled with widespread mobilization of the citizenry towards the statist gospel of modernization and development. While much has been written about the political and economic contours of this period, the rich complexity of its cultural production remains obscure. This edited volume brings together a wide range of scholars to explore literature, film, television, performance, music, and architecture, as well as practices of urban and financial planning, consumption, and homeownership. Examining the plural forms of culture’s relationship to state power, the authors illuminate the decade of the 1970s in South Korea and offer an essential framework for understanding contemporary Korean society.

An appreciation of life, an illumination of three esoteric principles of embodying, flowing, and regulating water through one's personal journey and narratives of 'walking flowers'--people who walk the flow Jin Young Lim was studying ancient philosophy when he delved into reflections on his life to date--from humanitarian work in Fukushima to studying in Tokyo, becoming a yoga and Taijiquan instructor, and co-founding a non-profit in the Himalayas before moving to Beijing as a Schwarzman Scholar. Turning his musings into chapters, Jin Young uses experiences from different parts of Asia to construct an account of what he calls 'The Dao of Flow'--a way of continuous transformation reflecting the philosophical implications of water. In a series of incisive vignettes and anecdotes, he draws inspiration from classical texts as he relates them to various topics across multiple disciplines: contemplative practices, spirituality, tea, agriculture, biodiversity, art, history, geography, politics, social economics, and stories of his mentors and role models in life.
