This book is based on the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on "Mesenchymal-Epithelial Interactions in Neural Development" which was held in Berlin during March 1986. The idea that it may be the time for this workshop arose from a discussion among the organizers who met at a conference in Innsbruck. During the twenties, Spemann demonstrated that, in vertebrates, the formation of neuroepithelium depends on the induction by specific mesodermal derivatives. This was about the first time that mesenchymal-epithelial interactions had been recognized as an important mechanism in the development of an epithelial organ. Since then two things had become clear: 1) The identity and role of molecules, elab...
Transplantation into the Mammalian CNS presents a comprehensive critical overview of recent advances of basic and clinical research in neural transplantation. Special emphasis is devoted to the emerging studies on the use of clinical grafts for the treatment of parkinsonism, the extension of this technology to additional models of neurological deficits, the immunobiology of neural implants, the exploration of trophic factors, and other new directions in the field of transplantation. Due to the extensive list of contents, only content headings are given. Full details can be obtained from the Publisher upon request.
Current Topics in Developmental Biology
~he major theme of this book is the development of the vertebrate central nervous system. ~is volume contains summaries of most of the invited participants at the NA~ advanced study institute entitled "Development of central nervous system in vertebrates" held in Maratea, Italy, from June 23-July 5, 1991. In order to address this topic, we have drawn upon a selection of current studies dealing with molecular, cellular and system analysis which specifically pertain to the general principles of the development. ~he major aim of this institute was to bring together a select group of investigators who would present their views on the current issues in their respective fields and to foster extens...
Four years ago the first international symposium dealing with neural transplan tation was organized as a satellite conference to the annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience in Los Angeles, California. The expanded proceed ings of that symposium were published by Springer-Verlag in 1983 in a volume entitled Neural Tissue Transplantation Research. We were sufficiently pleased with the results of that effort to organize a second satellite international sympo sium on Neural Transplantation and Regeneration in conjunction with the 13th Annual Meeting of the Society for Neuroscience in Boston in the fall of 1983. Paralleling the growing body of research dealing with various aspects of neura...
First multi-year cumulation covers six years: 1965-70.
Most authors who have studied the whole visual system described the fiber connections between the different nuclear centers (Monakow, 1883, 1889; Probst, 1900; Minkowski, 1913, 1920, 1934; Kosaka and Hiraiwa, 1914; Put nam, 1926; Oshinomi, 1930; Papez and Freeman, 1930; Lashley, 1931, 1934a, 1934b, 1941; Barris and Ingram, 1933/34; Le Gros Clark and Penman, 1934; Waller, 1934; Chang, 1936; Gillilan, 1940; Le Gros Clark, 1942; Krieg, 1946a, 1946b, 1947; Nauta and Bucher, 1954; Hayhow et al., 1962; Lund, 1966; Mon tero, 1968). The histogenetic and cytogenetic differentiation of the various components of the visual system has been treated in numerous individual studies mostly on the cerebral co...
Remarkable atlas provides exceptionally detailed, clinically relevant anatomic knowledge! Praise for the prior edition: "The THIEME Atlas of Anatomy – Internal Organs provides pertinent and well-executed anatomical illustrations, enriched with figures from diagnostic imaging. We strongly suggest this atlas not only to students in medicine, but also to residents and practitioners, including those involved in diagnostic imaging."—European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Thieme Atlas of Anatomy: Internal Organs, Third Edition by renowned educators Michael Schuenke, Erik Schulte, and Udo Schumacher, along with consulting editor Wayne Cass, expands on prior editions with inc...
