"Goddess, grant me the serenity to accept how fucked up this is Give me strength to face myself in the mirror, the courage to swallow my pride, and a glass of champagne to wash it all down." After her 18 year old daughter survives a heroin overdose, which caught her by complete surprise, MaryScarlett Amaris tries everything, including a fearless examination of her own life and mores, to answer the haunting question: why did this happen? Funny, poignant, honest, and wise, Amaris both bears and heals her soul in the hope that no one who experiences a loved one's addiction will ever feel too angry, too ridiculous, or too alone.

Race and IQ

Ashley Montagu, who first attacked the term "race" as a usable concept in his acclaimed work, Man's Most Dangerous Myth , offers here a devastating rebuttal to those who would claim any link between race and intelligence. In now classic essays, this thought-provoking volume critically examines the terms "race" and "IQ" and their applications in scientific discourse. The twenty-four contributors--including such eminent thinkers as Stephen Jay Gould, Richard Lewontin, Urie Bronfenbrenner, W.F. Bodmer, and Jerome Kagan--draw on fields that range from biology and genetics to psychology, anthropology, and education. What emerges in piece after piece is a deep skepticism about the scientific valid...

Loyalty to Your Soul

Loyalty to Your Soul establishes Spiritual Psychology as a paradigm-altering frontier. It initiates a radical shift at the core of contemporary psychological thought by unveiling a technology for using everyday life experiences as rungs on the ladder of spiritual evolution. This book is uniquely suited for anyone seeking to discover and cross the bridge that spans the waters between life referenced in material reality and life lived within the context of spiritual reality. Loyalty to Your Soul shows you how to first gain access to, and then gradually learn to live from, that sacred place inherent within everyone referred to by the authors as the Authentic Self—a place where emotional suffering ceases and profound peace and love are present. While many people have written about such an inner state, Ron and Mary Hulnick show you how to travel there . . .and what to anticipate once you arrive. The radical technology they introduce empowers readers to transform challenging or negative human experiences into direct experiences of the Soul.

Storied Landscapes

Storied Landscapes is a beautifully written, sweeping examination of the evolving identity of major ethno-religious immigrant groups in the Canadian West. Viewed through the lens of attachment to the soil and specific place, and through the eyes of both the immigrant generation and its descendants, the book compares the settlement experiences of Ukrainians, Mennonites, Icelanders, Doukhobors, Germans, Poles, Romanians, Jews, Finns, Swedes, Norwegians, and Danes. It reveals how each group’s sense of identity was shaped by a complex interplay of physical and emotional ties to land and place, and how that sense of belonging influenced, and was influenced by, relationships not only within the prairies and the Canadian nation state but also with the homeland and its extended diaspora. Through a close study of myths, symbols, commemorative traditions, and landmarks, Storied Landscapes boldly asserts the inseparability of ethnicity and religion both to defining the prairie region and to understanding the Canadian nation-building project.

Saltsjöbaden V - Taking international air pollution policies into the future

24-26 June 2013, 130 leading international policy makers, scientists, experts and others met at an international workshop in Gothenburg, Sweden, in order to discuss and outline future directions in air pollution science and policy. The workshop, which was organised in close collaboration with the Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution and the European Commission, involved several themes such as linkages to climate change including SLCP, nitrogen, global governance and effects to health and environment. The output is a series of recommendations for further actions with respect to effects to health, ecosystems and near-term climate actions. Recommendations were also given with respect to heavy metals and POPs. The recommendations are directed towards several international organisations and initiatives such as CLRTAP, European Commission, Climate and Clean Air Coalition and the Arctic Council.

I AM WOMAN, HEAR ME ROAR

Our story has its quiet beginning at a convention in Seneca Falls, New York, in 1848. Susan B. Anthony attended, and it was here her legacy began. This convention launched the suffrage movement. This novel is based on actual events in history, although it is written as creative fiction. There are two parts to this Victorian Romance, Women's Rights, and State's Rights. It gets underway after the convention in the summer of 1860 with four young women, known throughout the reading as the four musketeers, who are all single and graduate from the Hampton Women's College in Virginia. It follows their courtship with handsome men from all walks of life, Colonel Richard 'Dick' Jackson, Reverend Russe...
