John Gilmore
This collection contains an account book kept by John Gilmore from 1814 to 1850 in Woolwich, Sagadahoc County, Me. He sold farm products, wood, salt thatch, and boat timber. He also performed some official town business matters, including taking affidavits and hiring teachers. He hired servants in an indenture arrangement to work on tending cattle, breaking flax, cutting wood, and mending walls. One of his regular customers was the village of Woolwich, which often requested schoolhouse repairs, hauling wood, and laying out roads. There are also family notes, including marriages and deaths.
