Interest in Yoga—an aspect of ayurveda—is growing nationally and is starting to become part of more progressive treatment programs. Patients want more. Providers need to offer more. And choices need to be based on sciencetific research on complementary/alternative medicine, which is under-researched in the addictions treatment field right now. Their has been a flurry of interest in Trancendental Meditation (TM) the past few months, mostly due to very impressive rese...

How Far Are We from the Gauge Forces

During August 1983, a group of 89 physicists from 59 labora tories in 23 countries met in Erice for the 21st Course of the International School of Subnuclear Physics. The countries repre sented were Algeria, Australia, Austria, Canada, Czechoslovakia, the Federal Republic of Germany, Finland, France, Hungary, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and Yugoslavia. The School was sponsored by the European Physical Society (EPS), the Italian Ministry of Education (MPI), the Italian Ministry of Scientific and Technological Research (MRST), the Sicilian Regional Government (ERS), and the Weizmann Institute of Science. The programme of the School was mainly devoted to a review of the most significant results, both in theory and experiment, obtained in the field of the "electroweak" and of the "colour" forces of nature. The outcome of the Course was to present a clear picture of how far we are from the electronuclear formulation of these basic forces acting between quarks and leptons. And more generally, how far we are from the unification of all gauge forces of nature.

Kennedy School of Government, offered to find out. He called the Transcendental Meditation Center in Cambridge, and the next week a speaker addressed Dr. David's class. Fascinated, six students, along with Dr. David, started the technique.

Inner Space/Outer Space

Inner Space/Outer Space brings together much of the exciting work contributing to a new synthesis of modern physics. Particle physicists, concerned with the "inner space" of the atom, are making discoveries that their colleagues in astrophysics, studying outer space, can use to develop and test hypotheses about the events that occurred in the microseconds after the Big Bang and that shaped the universe as we know it today. The papers collected here, from scores of scientists, constitute the proceedings of the first major international conference on research at the interface of particle physics and astrophysics, held in May 1984. The editors have written introductions to each major section that draw out the central themes and elaborate on the primary implications of the papers that follow.
