Seminar paper from the year 2013 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Linguistics, grade: 1,0, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (English and Linguistics), course: Reading/Writing London, language: English, abstract: This paper focuses on the genesis of one of the most iconic friendships and juxtaposes the literary birth of Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson with their televisual re-birth. Furthermore, it is primarily concerned with the evolving friendship between the well-known inhabitants of 221B Baker Street and the question of whether or not it might be regarded as “symbiotic”. In addition to an analysis of the homosexual innuendos that occur in A Study in Pink, there will be a brief section on the city of London, which is often perceived as a third protagonist. Due to the finite length of this paper, other aspects concerning the crime case, literary adaptation theory/filming politics, the visual aesthetics of A Study in Pink and the question of (post)modernity have either only briefly been touched on or been omitted altogether.

Sherlock Holmes and John Watson: The Day They Met

Sherlock Holmes and John Watson have wandered far from the light of Victorian gas lamps. As Holmes and Watson they've tangled with Nazis, as Sherlock and John they roam the corridors of New Scotland Yard. In a world of so many fresh adventures, why not fresh beginnings to those adventures? From an 1879 Kabul train station to a King's College lecture theatre in 2015, The Day They Met includes stories both classic and contemporary, offering fifty intriguing new ways that the world's most legendary partnership might have begun.

Seminar paper from the year 2010 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 1,3, University of Bayreuth, course: PS Whodunit, language: English, abstract: If we think about Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and his writings, we automatically think about Sherlock Holmes. But what about his partner and friend Dr. Watson? Is he not as important as his famous companion? Maybe he does not solve the mysteries and crimes maybe he is even a little slow and featherbrained. But Dr. Watson should not be underestimated. He functions as the mediator between the story and the reader. Speaking of a mediator implies that this instrument builds a connection between two poles. In this ca...
