This volume contains 23 state-of-the-art papers presented at the Dolomieu Conference on Carbonate Platforms and Dolomitization held in September 1991 in Ortisei, Italy. The conference was co-sponsored by the International Association of Sedimentologists (IAS) and the Society for Sedimentary Geology (SEPM), and marked the 200th anniversary of the 1791 paper by Deodat de Dolomieu describing dolomite in detail for the first time. Eerste publicatie over de geschiedenis van de Dienst Onderzoekscoördinatie en het onderzoeksbeleid aan de KU Leuven In 2016 vierde de Dienst Onderzoekscoördinatie van de Leuvense universiteit zijn dertigste verjaardag. De geschiedenis van deze door de gereputeerde geneticus Herman Vanden Berghe opgerichte dienst, die de voorbije decennia een sterke expansie beleefde, fungeert in dit boek als kapstok voor een ruimer verhaal over het onderzoeksbeleid aan de Leuvense universiteit. Daarbij gaat het onder meer over het streven naar excellentie, over de stimulansen voor interdisciplinair onderzoek, over de opkomst van de bibliometrie, over de uitbouw van een open access-beleid, over de groeiende aandacht voor wetenschappelijke integriteit, over verdeelsleutels en supercomputers, rankings en publicatiedruk, peer review en tenure track.
