Catalan Cinema
Catalan Cinema offers a theoretical reading of the most relevant cinematic productions to emerge from Catalonia in the last twenty years. The essays in this collection examine cinema in relation to the Escola de Barcelona (The Barcelona School), a group of cinema directors that drew inspiration from British pop-art, Free Cinema, and the Nouvelle Vague to create works that defied and challenged the Franco dictatorship. Highlighting the aesthetic, social, and political elements of Catalan cinematography, contributors to this volume explore what young directors have in common with works created by more notable directors such as Joaquim Jordà, Jacinto Esteva, Jordi Grau, and Pere Portabella. Catalan Cinema focuses on the importance of modern production and its connection with the avant-garde and underground cinema from the Barcelona School. Establishing a cinematic genealogy, the volume ultimately questions if Catalan cinema’s own push for self-expression may be interpreted as a connection to Catalonia’s current drive for independence.

La imagen compleja
El autor propone la idea de imagen compleja como una nueva forma de pensar las imágenes, dado que las nuevas complejidades de la imagen proponen situaciones híbridas por las que las dos formas de gestión del conocimiento -cultura textual y cultura visual- se alían a favor de la comprensión de una realidad también compleja que no admite las vicisitudes de antiguos paradigmas, como el de la imagen mimética, que han regido la comprensión de lo visual hasta muy recientemente. Como ejemplo concreto de imagen compleja se propone el estudio de la interfaz, entendida como nuevo modelo mental que nos impulsa a pensar de forma distinta las relaciones entre sujeto y objeto y entre espectador e imagen, así como el propio funcionamiento de ésta, investigando el concepto de metáfora visual y proponiendo una alianza entre el saber y la imagen como salida al estancamiento de una cultura atascada en un temor a la imagen de raíces ancestrales pero obsoletas tras más de un siglo de continua y completa visualización de lo real.

La repressió franquista a la Ribera d'Ebre (1938-1945)
En aquest llibre, l'autor, amb un criteri imparcial, tracta d'introduir-se en el context dels represaliats de la comarca en temps del franquisme; la qual cosa, per motius diversos, fins avui no havia estat possible. La consulta dels expedients li ha donat una visió més realista dels fets, que sovint eren distorsionats. La tasca d'investigació ha estat lenta i feixuga; els entrebancs per accedir a les fonts documentals sembla que a poc a poc se superen. Les diverses acusacions que sofriren els encausats han estat el fil conductor dels guanyadors, que, moltes vegades, sense escoltar les opinions dels "perdedors", els jutjaren i, en els casos extrems, els condemnaren a la pena capital. És molt difícil dir qui tenia raó. L'autor afirma que de cada encausat en concret es podria portar a terme un extens treball. Esperem que el temps, que tot ho cura, posi cada situació al lloc que li pertoca.
