From Ancient Text to Valid Application
As a child needs nutrient-rich calories to grow healthily, so God’s people experience maturation through consistent, Spirit-empowered feedings from the Bible prepared by a capable, Spirit-filled chef. This is why Paul emphatically charged Timothy, an overseer of a local congregation, to unwaveringly and unrelentingly “preach the word” (2 Tim 4:1–2), a task that assumes not only Scripture’s right explanation but also its valid application. Unfortunately, while much scholarly attention has been paid to the former facet, less has been given to the latter. One homiletician, Abraham Kuruvilla (Privilege the Text! A Theological Hermeneutic for Preaching), has recently attempted to fill this void by articulating and demonstrating a methodology through which a preacher can, with confidence and clarity, lead the people of God from the word of God to its intended, and thus binding, application. This work explores the effectiveness of his proposed theology and hermeneutic for the identification, development, communication, and reception of biblically founded, theologically valid, and hearer-relevant application.

Citizens of Rowan County, North Carolina and Vicinity Volume 4: 1827 Ð 1828
The Western Carolinian carried a variety of advertising, which was then, as it is for newspapers now, a major source of revenue. These advertisements for the years 1827-1828 are compiled in this volume. In them the citizens of Rowan County and the surrounding area sold their houses; people advertised for lost items; natural disasters happened; people were murdered; executions were carried out; sheriffs sold property to pay for taxes. These and many other events were published in the paper. Over 2,200 names are indexed.

The Liberty Ships of World War II
This book details the Liberty ships and the Emergency Shipbuilding Program during World War II. For the first time, comprehensive information is provided about the builders, the namesakes, and the operators under one cover. Included is a list of all 2,710 Liberty ships delivered by U.S. shipyards, giving each ship's namesake and detailed descriptions of the companies that built the ships and the steamship companies that operated them during the war. This book also details the formation of two shipyards in South Portland, Maine, the Todd-Bath Iron Shipbuilding Co. and the South Portland Shipbuilding Corp. South Portland's shady operations were investigated by the U.S. Congress and resulted in the merger of both companies into the New England Shipbuilding Corporation in April 1943. Also featured is the Jeremiah O'Brien. Built by New England Ship in 1943 and one of only two operational Liberty ships left in the world, its service history and crew information are given along with its postwar restoration and return to Normandy in 1994.
