An Ethnography of Global Landscapes and Corridors
The chapters presented in this book draw on ethnography as a methodology in a variety of disciplines, including education, management, design, marketing, ecology and scientific contexts, illustrating the value of a qualitative approach to research design. The chapters discuss the use of traditional ethnographic methods, such as immersion, observation and interview, as well as innovative ethnographical methods which have been influenced by the new digital culture. The latter challenges notions of identity, field and traditional culture such that people are able to represent themselves in the research process rather than be represented. New approaches to ethnography also examine the use and implication of images in representation as well as critically examining the role and impact of the researcher in the process.
El psicodrama en Medellín
A casi cien años del inicio oficial del Psicodrama (1 de abril de 1921), es posible decir que hay amplios desarrollos sobre el tema a lo largo del planeta. En Europa, Asia, Norteamérica y Latinoamérica hay evidencias de experiencias de investigación e intervención asociadas al Psicodrama. Sin embargo, en colombia estas experiencias son más reducidas y poco conocidas. Este libro busca darle cuerpo a estas experiencias y reunirlas para los lectores. Hay capítulos teóricos sobre la historia, sobre el erotismo, sobre la teoría de la escena; también de sistematización de experiencias de intervención y de formación; y uno de investigación aplicada sobre el psicodrama colectivo. Es un texto útil para iniciarse en el estudio del psicodrama, especialmente, para conocer su desarrollo en Colombia, y de manera particular, en la ciudad de Medellín; una obra que se instaura como piedra fundacional del movimiento psicodramático colombiano.

En conjunto, los autores de este libro destacan acertadamente que la "especificidad histórica del Estado" en América Latina estaría dada por la heterogeneidad estructural y el carácter subordinado y dependiente de su inserción en la economía mundial, mientras que las múltiples especificidades nacionales devendrían de los procesos de conformación particular de sus clases fundamentales, sus intereses antagónicos, sus conflictos, sus luchas y sus articulaciones, en tensión permanente con su forma de inserción en los ciclos históricos de acumulación a escala global.

An Expedition to the Ranquel Indians
The encounter between Native American peoples and Europeans and their descendants has marked the history of every nation in the Americas, both North and South. Lucio Mansilla’s Una excursión a los indios ranqueles, published in Argentina in 1870, is one of very few works in American letters that presents a vivid, firsthand account of a noncombative encounter between Native American and European civilizations. This volume is the first English translation of Mansilla’s classic work. Long noted for its humor, adventurousness, and narrative ingenuity, the book offers penetrating insights into fundamental issues of "civilization and barbarism," immigration, ethnic and racial diversity, and land ownership and tenancy. Mansilla alone among his contemporaries espoused open dialogue as the best approach to the "Indian problem." Although the peace accord he sought to enact with the Ranquels was summarily disregarded by the Argentine government, which slowly gravitated towards a policy of ethnic cleansing and expropriation of Indian lands, the Expedition does narrate a rehearsal for a reconciliation that in the end never took place.
