This monograph studies the professionalization of History of religions as an academic discipline in late 19th and early 20th century France and Europe. Its common thread is the work of the French Modernist priest and later Professor of History of religions at the Collège de France, Alfred Loisy (1857-1940), who participated in many of the most topical debates among French and international historians of religions. Welchen Herausforderungen zum Umgang mit religiöser Vielfalt müssen sich Praktiker*innen in ihrer alltäglichen Arbeit stellen? Das Praxishandbuch bietet Fallanalysen und Handlungsperspektiven in den Bereichen Medien, Politik/Verwaltung, Bildung, Zivilgesellschaft und am Arbeitsplatz. Anhand von Nordrhein-Westfalen wird deutlich, dass es einer Sensibilisierung und Bewusstseinsschaffung bedarf, um die Herausforderungen zu bewältigen. Das Praxishandbuch richtet sich an Praktiker*innen, denen die Vielfalt der Religionen begegnet, an Forscher*innen, die diese untersuchen, sowie an interessierte Bürger*innen.
Vorbeugende Sozialpolitik
Vorbeugende und sozialinvestive Politikansätze haben in den letzten zwei Jahrzehnten in der europäischen Sozialpolitik, in Deutschland und insbesondere auch in Nordrhein-Westfalen an Bedeutung gewonnen. Im Forschungsinstitut für Gesellschaftliche Weiterentwicklung e.V. (2014 – 2020) bildete der Forschungsbereich Vorbeugende Sozialpolitik daher einen Schwerpunkt. Dieser Sammelband fasst die entstandenen Studien zusammen und bettet sie hinsichtlich ihrer sozialpolitischen Hintergründe, ihrer theoretischen und programmatischen Grundlagen und spezifischen Analyseperspektiven ein. Das verbindende Element der Studien ist die Frage, wie der Übergang zu einer präventiven und befähigenden sozialen Lebenslaufpolitik in den verschiedenen sozialpolitischen Handlungsfeldern ausgestaltet und befördert werden kann.

In dieser Ausgabe des JOURNAL wird nach der Relevanz digitaler Medien für politische Information und Entwicklung politischer Einstellungen gefragt. Digitale Medien werden für Information und Meinungsbildung immer wichtiger. Gerade im Superwahljahr 2021 hat die Kommunikation über soziale Medien einen hohen Stellenwert für die politische Meinungsbildung. Dabei ist es nicht leicht, zwischen Empörungswellen, Postings von Influencer*innen, zahlreichen Podcasts und Youtube-Clips zuverlässige und glaubwürdige Informationen zu erkennen. This book examines evangelical dieting and fitness programs and provides a systematic approach of this diverse field with its wide variety of programs. When evangelical Christians engage in fitness and dieting classes in order to “glorify God,” they often face skepticism. This book approaches devotional fitness culture in North America from a religious studies perspective, outlining the basic structures, ideas, and practices of the field. Starting with the historical backgrounds of this current, the book approaches both practice and ideology, highlighting how devotional fitness programs construe their identity in the face of various competing offers in religious and non-religious sectors of society. The book suggests a nuanced and complex understanding of the relationship between sports and religion, beyond ‘simple’ functional equivalency. It provides insights into the formation of secular and religious body ideals and the way these body ideals are sacralized in the frame of an evangelical worldview.
