This volume contains the proceedings of the AMS Special Session on Combinatorial and Geometric Representation Theory, held virtually on November 20–21, 2021. The articles offer an engaging look into recent advancements in geometric representation theory. Despite diverse subject matters, a common thread uniting the articles of this volume is the power of geometric methods. The authors explore the following five contemporary topics in geometric representation theory: equivariant motivic Chern classes; equivariant Hirzebruch classes and equivariant Chern-Schwartz-MacPherson classes of Schubert cells; locally semialgebraic spaces, Nash manifolds, and their superspace counterparts; support varieties of Lie superalgebras; wreath Macdonald polynomials; and equivariant extensions and solutions of the Deligne-Simpson problem. Each article provides a well-structured overview of its topic, highlighting the emerging theories developed by the authors and their colleagues.
This volume contains the proceedings of the Workshop on Lie Algebras, in honor of Helmut Strade's 70th Birthday, held from May 22-24, 2013, at the Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca, Milano, Italy. Lie algebras are at the core of several areas of mathematics, such as, Lie groups, algebraic groups, quantum groups, representation theory, homogeneous spaces, integrable systems, and algebraic topology. The first part of this volume combines research papers with survey papers by the invited speakers. The second part consists of several collections of problems on modular Lie algebras, their representations, and the conjugacy of their nilpotent elements as well as the Koszulity of (restricted) Lie algebras and Lie properties of group algebras or restricted universal enveloping algebras.
This proceedings volume covers a range of research topics in algebra from the Southern Regional Algebra Conference (SRAC) that took place in March 2017. Nonassociative mathematics is a broad research area that studies mathematical structures violating the associative law x(yz)=(xy)z. The topics covered by nonassociative mathematics include quasigroups, loops, Latin squares, Lie algebras, Jordan algebras, octonions, racks, quandles, and their applications. This volume contains the proceedings of the Fourth Mile High Conference on Nonassociative Mathematics, held from July 29–August 5, 2017, at the University of Denver, Denver, Colorado. This volume contains the proceedings of the AMS Special Session on Geometry of Submanifolds, held from October 25–26, 2014, at San Francisco State University, San Francisco, CA, and the AMS Special Session on Recent Advances in the Geometry of Submanifolds: Dedicated to the Memory of Franki Dillen (1963–2013), held from March 14–15, 2015, at Michigan State University, East Lansing, Ml. The focus of the volume is on recent studies of submanifolds of Riemannian, semi-Riemannian, Kaehlerian and contact manifolds. Some of these use techniques in classical differential geometry, while others use methods from ordinary differential equations, geometric analysis, or geometric PDEs. By brainstorming on the fundamental problems and exploring a large variety of questions studied in submanifold geometry, the editors hope to provide mathematicians with a working tool, not just a collection of individual contributions. This volume is dedicated to the memory of Franki Dillen, whose work in submanifold theory attracted the attention of and inspired many geometers.
The articles in this book are based on talks given at the international conference 'Lie algebras, vertex operator algebras and their applications'.
