Atlas náboženství Česka
  • Language: en

Atlas náboženství Česka

The Atlas of Religions in Czechia represents the first comprehensive geographical analysis of the religious landscape of Czechia and its transformation since the fall of communism in 1989. The atlas is divided into three parts. The first section tackles regional differentiation between select religious movements and groups within the last two decades; the second focuses on sacred objects in their environment and their deployment in ten model regions across Czechia; and the final part analyzes the relational context of specific spatial, socioeconomic, and demographic factors connected to religiosity in contemporary Czech society. Every chapter includes a cartographic section that explains these phenomena in their regional context, thereby illustrating the diversity, development, historical continuity, and global influences of Czech religiosity.

A Feminist Glossary of Human Geography is the first guide to the main theories, concepts and terms commonly used in geographical debates about gender relations. Written by key contributors to feminist theory, it contains over 400 lively and accessible definitions of the terms found in feminist debates which students of geography need to know. Four levels of entry are used - from 50 to 1500 words - taking account of the varying degrees of complexity of the terms covered. From 'AIDS' to 'witch', from 'abortion' to 'whiteness', this 'Glossary' is cross-referenced throughout and includes a comprehensive bibliography. It is an invaluable reference for anyone studying geography and gender, enabling them to approach the terminology of feminist theory and ideas with confidence.

Beyond Sex Roles

This first-rate biblical and theological study offers an accessible examination of the key texts of Scripture pertinent to understanding female roles, affirming full equality of the sexes in family and church. The third edition has been revised throughout. Gilbert Bilezikian avoids using scholarly jargon and complex argumentation in the main text of the book to encourage readers to interact with the biblical research. The aim is for nonspecialized readers to be able to follow his discussion step-by-step, evaluate arguments, consider alternative views, and arrive at independent conclusions. The study guide format of the book is designed for either individual investigation or group work. Pastors, church leaders, students, and those interested in issues relating to gender and church life will value this classic work on the egalitarian viewpoint.

Building on a trans-disciplinary, feminist project that foregrounds the bodies of those at the ‘sharp end’ of various forms of international activity, such as immigration, development and warfare, the chapters included in this book cover a variety of sites, concerns, and hopes. These range from the fraught geopolitics of marriage and birth in Ladakh, India, to the fate of detained migrant children in the U.S., and from the human rights abuses of women and children in Uzbekistan to the body politics of aid workers in Afghanistan. The collective aim is to expose the force relations that operate through and upon those bodies, such that particular subjectivities are enhanced, constrained, an...

In recent years, geographies of identities, including those of ethnicity, religion, 'race' and gender, have formed an increasing focus of contemporary human geography. The events of September 11th, 2001 particularly illustrated the ways in which identities can be transformed across time and space by both global and local events of a social, cultural, political and economic nature. Such transformations have also demonstrated the temporal and spatial construction of hate and fear, and of increasing incidences of 'Islamophobia' through the construction of Muslims as 'the Other'. As the social scientific study of religion continues to be marginalized within mainstream scholarship, there remains ...

Sacred and Secular

This book develops a theory of existential security. It demonstrates that the publics of virtually all advanced industrial societies have been moving toward more secular orientations during the past half century, but also that the world as a whole now has more people with traditional religious views than ever before. This second edition expands the theory and provides new and updated evidence from a broad perspective and in a wide range of countries. This confirms that religiosity persists most strongly among vulnerable populations, especially in poorer nations and in failed states. Conversely, a systematic erosion of religious practices, values and beliefs has occurred among the more prosperous strata in rich nations.

Rising Tide

The twentieth century gave rise to profound changes in traditional sex roles. However, the force of this 'rising tide' has varied among rich and poor societies around the globe, as well as among younger and older generations. Rising Tide sets out to understand how modernization has changed cultural attitudes towards gender equality and to analyze the political consequences of this process. The core argument suggests that women and men's lives have been altered in a two-stage modernization process consisting of (i) the shift from agrarian to industrialized societies and (ii) the move from industrial towards post industrial societies. This book is the first to systematically compare attitudes towards gender equality worldwide, comparing almost 70 nations that run the gamut from rich to poor, agrarian to postindustrial. Rising Tide is essential reading for those interested in understanding issues of comparative politics, public opinion, political behavior, political development, and political sociology.
