This publication engages with a futuristic progressive vision on the condition of cinema. By questioning and analyzing cinema's past and present industry with respect to various forms of staging from the perspective of artistic practice and research, a new space beyond is formulated. The author takes on a journey to reveal an imaginary—astronomical—political trope on and through what can be called the cinema of the present.
"Rosa Barba works with the basic elements of the cinema: celluloid, light, projector, and sound. She dissects the structure of the narrative and plays with the often improbable characters, places, and stories of the medium of film. Her exploration of space, time, and language is crucial to the process. This publication presents her new project, which, like a story or a play in different acts, stretches out across two exhibition chapters. The project revolves around a 35mm film, Time as Perspective, which Barba shot during the spring in Texas--fascinated by the desert landscape, which she approaches from an almost archaeological perspective on a quest for inscribed signs and times." --Publisher description.
Before Projection: Video Sculpture 1974-1995 shines a spotlight on a historical moment and a body of work in the history of media art that has been largely overlooked since its inception. The exhibition explores the connections between our current moment and the point at which video art was transformed dramatically with the entry of large-scale, cinematic installation into the gallery space. This exhibition will present a re-evaluation of monitor-based sculpture since the 1970’s and serve as a tightly focused survey of works that have been rarely seen in the last twenty years. Artists featured in the exhibition are Dara Birnbaum, Ernst Caramelle, Takahiko Iimura, Shigeko Kubota, Mary Lucier, Muntadas, Tony Oursler, Nam June Paik, Friederike Pezold, Adrian Piper, Diana Thater, and Maria Vedder.--Gallery website.

"The filthy, funny early work from the Tuca & Bertie creator, and Bojack Horseman production designer Before the critically acclaimed animated shows, the bestselling graphic novel Coyote Doggirl, or the humor collections Hot Dog Taste Test and My Dirty Dumb Eyes, cartoonist Lisa Hanawalt was a comic-book-industry sensation with her Ignatz Award-winning minicomic series I Want You. Hanawalt’s outlandish humor and ingenious formalism are evident in the comics collected here. Her love of anthropomorphism and scatology are on full display, all lovingly and grotesquely drawn by Hanawalt in obsessive, unnerving detail. The stars here are She-Moose, who we join sex-toy shopping, and He-Horse, who...
