Advances in Geospatial Data Science
This book presents a selection of manuscripts submitted to the 2nd International Conference on Geospatial Information Sciences 2021, a virtual conference held on November 3-5, 2021. These papers were selected by the Scientific Program Committee of the Conference after a rigorous peer-review process. They represent the vast scope of the interdisciplinary research areas that characterize the Geospatial Information Sciences that is done in the discipline. It especially represents a fabulous opportunity to showcase research carried out by young Mexican researchers and showcase it to the rest of the world and enhance the growth of the sciences in the country while, at the same time, enforces them to level up with other research at the international level.
Active Volcanoes of Chiapas (Mexico): El Chichón and Tacaná
This publication summarizes the studies carried out at two of the most active volcanoes of Chiapas (Mexico): El Chichón and Tacaná. El Chichón erupted explosively in 1982 killing more than 2000 people being the worst volcanic disaster in Mexico, and Tacaná produced two mild phreatic explosions in 1950 and 1986. Only after these explosions a surge of new studies began to unreveal their volcanic history and impact. This book presents the state of the art advances in topics related to the geologic setting of the two volcanoes, their eruptive history and composition of erupted products, the hydrothermal systems and their manifestations. Volcanic hazards and risks and possible mitigation plans are discussed based on the experience of the catastrophic eruption of El Chichón that occurred in 1982. The book will also include previously unpublished material on the flora and the fauna of the region and archaeological and social aspects of the area that is inhabited by indigenous people.

Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning
This is the first textbook on pattern recognition to present the Bayesian viewpoint. The book presents approximate inference algorithms that permit fast approximate answers in situations where exact answers are not feasible. It uses graphical models to describe probability distributions when no other books apply graphical models to machine learning. No previous knowledge of pattern recognition or machine learning concepts is assumed. Familiarity with multivariate calculus and basic linear algebra is required, and some experience in the use of probabilities would be helpful though not essential as the book includes a self-contained introduction to basic probability theory.
Volcanic Successions Modern and Ancient
One of our aims in the book is to provide geologists with a sound basis for making their own well founded interpretations. For that reason we cover not only concepts about processes, and the nature of the products, but also methods and approaches that may be useful in analysing both modern and ancient successions. Most importantly, we treat the diversity of products in volcanic terrains as facies, and we use the method of facies analysis and interpretation as a means of constructing facies models for different volcanic settings. This book represents a comprehensive coverage of the current state of knowledge of Volcán de Colima: its history, its eruptive mechanism, the generation and interpretation of monitoring data, and the risk presented to the local population.
