Many parents find it hard to know which toys are appropriate for children at different ages, and what kinds of play to initiate and encourage. What can parents do to best help children develop, and foster their skills? Karin Neuschütz, an experienced educator and parent, addresses these questions in this concise, readable book. She discusses how children play, creatively and freely, and how they are affected by their environment and by the adults near them. She explores each developmental stage up to age seven, using case studies to illustrate particular issues. She then suggests suitable toys and dolls and nurturing activities for children at particular stages . Parents and early-years educators will appreciate the dependable, practical advice in this book.

Visionaries In Our Midst

This well-researched and theoretically informed book examines the nature and function of the main female characters in the nine novels of Machado de Assis. Earl Fitz argues that Machado had a particular interest in female characterization and that his fictional women became increasingly sophisticated and complex as he matured and developed as a writer and social commentator. Machado developed, especially after 1880 (and what is usually considered the beginning of his "mature" period), a kind of anti-realistic, "new narrative," one that presents itself as self-referential fictional artifice but one that also cultivates a keen social consciousness. Fitz concludes that Machado increasingly uses his female characterizations to convey this social consciousness and to show that the new Brazil that is emerging both before and after the establishment of the Brazilian Republic (1889) requires not only the emancipation of black slaves but the emancipation of its women as well.

A concise analysis of the basic problems with our Public Schools, and a succinct guide to fixing them! Once in the classroom I learned the limitations of the current platform that dictates the operation of Public Schools in the United States. This book addresses 25 primary and secondary topics that should be addressed if we are serious about Public School reform in the United States. Each chapter is easily read and digested in 20 minutes. The reader should find each chapter entertaining as each contains at least one story that showcases the problem and the ensuing discussion is brief and to the point. The author grew up in Wyoming, attended an exploratory high school attached to the University of Wyoming, earned a Bachelor of Science with honors in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wyoming, worked in the mining and chemical processing industry in Wyoming and Colorado, taught high school math for seven years, and is now retired in Jackson, Wyoming.

In the Third Reich, political dissidents were not the only ones liable to be punished for their crimes. Their parents, siblings and relatives also risked reprisals. This concept - known as Sippenhaft – was based in ideas of blood and purity. This definitive study surveys the threats, fears and infliction of this part of the Nazi system of terror.
