This is the third in a series of genealogical studies of German families that emigrated to the Kingdom of Hungary in the early 18th century and settled in Somogy County. Kötcse is the oldest of the three major German Lutheran parishes that evolved and numerous families from Kötcse were instrumental in the establishment of the other two. The family histories of those who settled in the parish of Somogydöröcske are included in the volume: Dörnberg: In the Shadow of the Josefsberg; and those from the parish of Ecsény in From Toleration to Expulsion that both preceded this publication. In addition to the genealogical information the author provides the historical context and other information vital to an understanding of the lifestyle, traditions and ultimate destiny of their sojourn in Hungary and beyond.

The Role of Data at the Semantics-Pragmatics Interface

To join the recent debate on data problem in linguistics, this collection of papers provides complex dual purpose analyses at the interface of semantics and pragmatics (including historical, lexical, formal and experimental pragmatics). Based on several current theories and various types of data taken from a number of languages, it discusses object theoretical issues of referentiality, scalar implicatures, implicit arguments, grammaticalization, co-construction and syntactic alternation in their mutual connections to metatheoretical questions concerning the relationship between data and theory.

The evaluation of linguistic theories depends heavily on what kind of data can be regarded as evidence either for or against their hypotheses. The question of what data types linguistic theories use, and which of these types are acknowledged as evidence, is accordingly one of the most fundamental and most widely discussed problems of contemporary linguistics. The aim of this volume is to shed fresh light on this problem by presenting the first findings of a research project. Part I consists of state-of-the-art studies critically analysing current views on the topic. Part II includes case studies which highlight how the conclusions of the state-of-the-art studies may motivate novel and sophis...

The Ethnological Museum in Berlin, Germany, houses Europe's largest collection of PreColumbian textiles-around 9000 well-preserved examples. Lena Bjerregaard was conservator of these materials 2000-2014, and she worked with many international researchers to analyze and publicize the collection. This book includes seven of their essays on the museum's holdings - by Bea Hoffmann, Ann Peters, Susan Bergh, Lena Bjerregaard, Jane Feltham, Katalin Nagy, and Gary Urton. Its second part is a 177-page catalogue of 273 selected representative items, arranged by period and style. There are more than 380 photographs. Styles or cultures shown include Paracas, Nasca, Sican/Lambayeque, Ychsma, Chavin, Siguas, Tiwanaku, Wari, Chimu, Central Coast, Chancay, South Coast, Inca, and Colonial. Items pictured include tunics, clothing, tapestry, hats, belts, headbands, samplers, borders, and khipus. Materials include camelid fibers, feathers, hair, cotton, reed, straw, and other plant fibers.

Chemical Structure-Biological Activity Relationships: Quantitative Approaches, Volume III, documents the proceedings of the 3rd Congress of the Hungarian Pharmacological Society held in Budapest, 1979. This volume focuses on the methodological aspects of QSAR. It also aims to inform the reader about the QSAR research conducted in East-European countries. This volume contains 38 presentations organized into six sections. Several lecturers deal with ""real prediction"" cases, i.e. activity estimation prior to the synthesis of the compounds. A particularly abundant section is devoted to the question of how the receptor models can be built up by means of QSAR calculations. Other sections present mathematical models and algorithms which could be applied to improve further the effectiveness of QSAR calculations. As another unique feature, a separate section treats the quantitative aspects of peptide structure-activity relationships—a field seemingly backward despite its evident importance. Hydrophobicity and its influence on biological potency along with the relationship of steric properties and biological activity are also discussed.

From May 31st to June 4th, 2016, the 7th International European conference on pre-Columbian textiles was held in Copenhagen. This volume unites seven original articles on pre-Columbian textiles from Mexico, which compare information on 20th century finds first described by Alba Guadelupe Mastache with that from previously unpublished finds and recently discovered contexts. A unique chapter presents the technical analysis and replication of a pre-Columbian tunic recovered in a cave site in Arizona, at the northern margins of the Mesoamerican interaction sphere. Thirteen articles on archaeological textiles from the central Andes include analysis of both textile assemblages preserved in museum collections and those recovered during recent fieldwork in archaeological sites of the Andean desert coast. These include textile assemblages representing the Initial and Formative Periods, Paracas and Nasca contexts, the Middle Horizon, diverse late Intermediate Period assemblages and emblematic Inca garments.
