The book "Embryogenesis" is a compilation of cutting edge views of current trends in modern developmental biology, focusing on gametogenesis, fertilization, early and/or late embryogenesis in animals, plants, and some other small organisms. Each of 27 chapters contributed from the authorships of world-wide 20 countries provides an introduction as well as an in-depth review to classical as well as contemporary problems that challenge to understand how living organisms are born, grow, and reproduce at the levels from molecule and cell to individual.
This volume tackles a variety of biological and medical questions using mathematical models to understand complex system dynamics. Working in collaborative teams of six, each with a senior research mentor, researchers developed new mathematical models to address questions in a range of application areas. Topics include retinal degeneration, biopolymer dynamics, the topological structure of DNA, ensemble analysis, multidrug-resistant organisms, tumor growth modeling, and geospatial modeling of malaria. The work is the result of newly formed collaborative groups begun during the Collaborative Workshop for Women in Mathematical Biology hosted by the Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics at UCLA in June 2019. Previous workshops in this series have occurred at IMA, NIMBioS, and MBI.
Although toxic in large doses, selenium is an essential trace mineral in the animal diet and in some plants. It has a role in making antioxidant enzymes and a particular role in the functioning of the thyroid gland. This volume examines the chemical activity of selenium and its functional health effects eg towards cancers, in the heart and brain. It also covers other areas such as functional food enrichment, whole body metabolism, and the effects of selenium deficiency on health. Part of The Food and Nutritional Components in Focus series, this edited volume pools knowledge across scientific disciplines in a way that increases its applicability to a wide range of audiences. Victor Preedy’s own distinguished career in nutritional science has made him a prolific author of research articles and books in this area, and this project fills a gap in providing comprehensive synopses of food substances. Chemists, analytical scientists, forensic scientists, food scientists, as well as course lecturers will all benefit from this interdisciplinary title written by international experts in this area.
This edited book Lanthanides is a collection of research chapters, offering an excellent review of recent applications in our lives. It consists of a number of interesting chapters by scientists and researchers from different parts of the world. The book is divided into six chapters. The first chapter is a short introduction that explains the nature and purpose of the book and the logic and significance of its contents. In the second chapter, Katarzyna Kiegiel et al. introduce novel apparatus solutions, for example membrane contactors in the extraction stage and different types of matrices (uranium ore, phosphorites, etc.). The third chapter by Dariusz Sala and Bogus?aw Bieda from AGH Univer...
This book aims to present an alternative based on natural processes and an environmental approach to post-excavation site management, e.g., post-coal mining heaps. These sites are places where various mineral excavation by-products are collected. Nevertheless, some post-mineral excavation sites are oligotrophic, terrestrial, wetland, and water habitat islands, providing unique biodiversity enrichment in the landscape. These oligotrophic mineral habitats are essential in over-fertilized, eutrophic, agricultural and urban-industry surroundings. Some post-mineral excavation sites are places where the wildlife can develop and support the functional processes of novel ecosystems. Implementing the...
The reviewed monograph is an unprecedented publication on the Polish publishing market. A group of leading scientists have undertaken an incredibly difficult task to investigate the Polish raison d'état. The task has been fully performed. Not only have the authors defined Polish national interest but they have also elaborated the challenges and threats faced by Poland and produced a forecast horizon for up to 2025.

This volume gathers together revised versions of the papers presented at the ECREA Radio Research Section Conference held in Lublin, Poland, in September 2017. The book highlights what radio actually is – a medium created to connect different places at a distance. Subtle but pervasive, simple but graceful, radio builds affective relations, either between listeners and the world or between listeners themselves. The word “relations” is plural. It suggests the idea that radio is both an economic activity – related to technology, production, working routines and business – and a cultural industry – related to aesthetics, art, social interaction, education and politics. Since relation...
