Rare-earth intermetallics, also known as lanthanide elements, play an important role in the study of magnetic materials and the development of semi- and super-conducting materials. This handbook provides an up-to-date compilation of crystallographic, physical, and magnetic data on rare-earth intermetallic compounds. Over 20 different structure types are described in detail with an emphasis on how crystal structure can affect magnetic properties. Theoretical models for magnetic interactions are described as well as the impact of crystal electric fields on transport properties, magneto crystalline anistropy and hyperfine interactions. This book provides materials scientists, engineers and physicists with all the critical information needed to use rare-earth intermetallics effectively in the development of new materials.
Despite the tremendous advances in the techniques and equipment for carrying out high-pressure crystallography, the application or exploration of the high-pressure variable in detailed structural studies remains rare. The chapters in this book provide a set of lecture notes and supplementary material for a course on high pressure crystallography. The material comprises state-of-the-art reviews of high-pressure experiments using X-ray and neutron diffraction techniques at synchrotron and neutron facilities and in the laboratory, as well as complementary experimental high-pressure techniques and theoretical methods for investigating matter at elevated pressures. The materials studies range from elemental solids and liquids to inorganic compounds, minerals, organic compounds, clathrates and pharmaceutical compounds, to large biological molecules such as proteins and viruses. The book provides a reference for workers in high-pressure science wishing to learn more about crystallography and for established crystallographers potentially interested in high pressure as a variable, as well as an introductory guide to new researchers in the field.
This interview offers insight into the little-known personal and professional life of the reknown investor who is also a major philanthropist, describing his early family life, his years as a "Guru in Training," and the founding of The Quantum Fund.
Presents postwar developments in preserving the Auschwitz-Birkenau ex-concentration and extermination camp in Poland. States that from 1991 working meetings were organized with representatives of municipal and conservation authorities in order to obtain a consensus on the aim and range of necessary works in the zone. Presents the results of the terrain studies, as well as the general guidelines for conservation and protection of the preserved structures of the former Auschwitz-Birkenau complex, among them protection of the historical landscape and a ban on demolition or reconstruction of former camp buildings. Underlines the necessity to take into consideration both Polish and Jewish memories of the site.
Presents a discussion of algebraic operations on the points in the plane and rigid motions in the Euclidean plane. This work introduces the notions of a transformation group and of an abstract group. It gives an elementary exposition of the basic ideas of Sophus Lie about symmetries of differential equations.

This book constitutes the 25th International Conference on Infrastructure and Environment (infraeco 2018) that focuses on rural problems connected with infrastructural equipment. In general, infrastructure issues are dedicated to urban areas while rural topics are linked to agriculture so this conference bridges these two aspects. It also explores ways to manage and separate conflicts between different and important needs of inhabitants, the environment, and other spatial users. The conference provides a forum for much needed cooperation between various scientific disciplines regarding these multidisciplinary problems and issues; hence, Infraeco 2018 draws together engineers, planners, consultants, land developers, and academics from across all disciplines of highway planning, design, operations, and engineering to presents effective practices and share current research results.
