This book is a gentle introduction to dominance-based query processing techniques and their applications. The book aims to present fundamental as well as some advanced issues in the area in a precise, but easy-to-follow, manner. Dominance is an intuitive concept that can be used in many different ways in diverse application domains. The concept of dominance is based on the values of the attributes of each object. An object dominates another object if is better than . This goodness criterion may differ from one user to another. However, all decisions boil down to the minimization or maximization of attribute values. In this book, we will explore algorithms and applications related to dominance-based query processing. The concept of dominance has a long history in finance and multi-criteria optimization. However, the introduction of the concept to the database community in 2001 inspired many researchers to contribute to the area. Therefore, many algorithmic techniques have been proposed for the efficient processing of dominance-based queries, such as skyline queries, -dominant queries, and top- dominating queries, just to name a few.

Query Processing over Graph-structured Data on the Web
In the last years, Linked Data initiatives have encouraged the publication of large graph-structured datasets using the Resource Description Framework (RDF). Due to the constant growth of RDF data on the web, more flexible data management infrastructures must be able to efficiently and effectively exploit the vast amount of knowledge accessible on the web. This book presents flexible query processing strategies over RDF graphs on the web using the SPARQL query language. In this work, we show how query engines can change plans on-the-fly with adaptive techniques to cope with unpredictable conditions and to reduce execution time. Furthermore, this work investigates the application of crowdsourcing in query processing, where engines are able to contact humans to enhance the quality of query answers. The theoretical and empirical results presented in this book indicate that flexible techniques allow for querying RDF data sources efficiently and effectively.

The two-volume set of LNCS 11778 and 11779 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 18th International Semantic Web Conference, ISWC 2019, held in Auckland, New Zealand, in October 2019. The ISWC conference is the premier international forum for the Semantic Web / Linked Data Community. The total of 74 full papers included in this volume was selected from 283 submissions. The conference is organized in three tracks: for the Research Track 42 full papers were selected from 194 submissions; the Resource Track contains 21 full papers, selected from 64 submissions; and the In-Use Track features 11 full papers which were selected from 25 submissions to this track. The Semantic Web - ISWC 2013
The two-volume set LNCS 8218 and 8219 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 12th International Semantic Web Conference, ISWC 2013, held in Sydney, Australia, in October 2013. The International Semantic Web Conference is the premier forum for Semantic Web research, where cutting edge scientific results and technological innovations are presented, where problems and solutions are discussed, and where the future of this vision is being developed. It brings together specialists in fields such as artificial intelligence, databases, social networks, distributed computing, Web engineering, information systems, human-computer interaction, natural language processing, and the social sciences. Part 1 (LNCS 8218) contains a total of 45 papers which were presented in the research track. They were carefully reviewed and selected from 210 submissions. Part 2 (LNCS 8219) contains 16 papers from the in-use track which were accepted from 90 submissions. In addition, it presents 10 contributions to the evaluations and experiments track and 5 papers of the doctoral consortium.
