A collection of five reflections given by Jesuit Klemens Stock during a presentation to the Carmelites of the Iberian Region. To Live in Faith Communion with Jesus is examined from the aspect of call to discipleship, following Christ, the understanding of Christ, and the union with Jesus through the study of diverse texts and the figures of Peter, the disciples, and Mary in the Scriptures. Fr. Stock is a noted exegete who teaches at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome. He is currently Secretary General of the Pontifical Biblical Commission.
Devotion to Mary, the Mother of the Lord, is solidly based on the New Testament. In this book, Fr. Klemens Stock examines each of the texts in the New Testament in which mention is made of Mary. He explains the different facets of her role in the history of salvation in simple language, based on long and profound study of the texts. Mary prophesied, All generations will call me blessed. (Lk 1:48). Reflection on her role in the life of Jesus and the Church by studying what the New Testament writers say about her will help us to understand more deeply her role in our lives. Fr. Stock is a noted exegete who teaches at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome. He is currently Secretary General of the Pontifical Biblical Commission.
"Recent research on the Book of Jeremiah reveals it as a meta-text. Georg Fischer shows that in dealing with earlier writings and using the example of the fall of Jerusalem in 587 BC at the end of the Persian period, the book offers a synthesis and its own view of biblical faith in Jhwh." --back cover
Scholarly discussion concerning Elijah in Luke is affected mainly by the detection of the many allusions to Elijah in connection with Jesus and, at the same time, by noting the absence of some associations of Elijah with John the Baptist familiar from the Gospel according to Mark. This twofold observation has brought many scholars to rethink whether or not Luke continues to present John as the Elijah who was to come. In Luke's perspective, John is the Elijah promised by Malachi acting «in the spirit and power» of the Elijah of old. Luke, furthermore, agrees with Malachi that the promised messenger prepares for «the Lord». These and several other claims concerning the theme are proposed to the reader as the fruit both of the scholarly discussion and of an analysis of the appropriate Lucan texts in this monograph.
Particularly in the humanities and social sciences, festschrifts are a popular forum for discussion. The IJBF provides quick and easy general access to these important resources for scholars and students. The festschrifts are located in state and regional libraries and their bibliographic details are recorded. Since 1983, more than 639,000 articles from more than 29,500 festschrifts, published between 1977 and 2010, have been catalogued.
This volume is a pastoral ressource and book for meditation. It offers commentaries on the Gospel readings of all the Sundays and feasts of Year C. Most of these readings belong to the Gospel of Luke, although some do come from Matthew and John. The order followed is that of the Sunday readings, and the different feasts are placed in an independent section. These commentaries are not homilies. Their aim is to help the readers to listen to the word of the Gospel by emphasizing the essential content of its message. A few questions have been placed at the end of each commentary as starting points for peronsal reflection.
In response to Benedict XVI's first encyclical, the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies and Marriage and Family reflects, together with the Holy Father, on love. From the very beginning, the fundamental work of the Institute has been pursuing a deeper understanding of God's plan for marriage and family. In these twenty-five years various generations of students and professors, following the legacy of John Paul II, have been able to discover and communicate the beauty of the vocation for which all men have been created: the call to love. Twenty-six professors from the Institute's various sessions express what in their understanding are the main themes of the document, approaching the topics raised by the Holy Father with different theological and philosophical perspectives; by so doing they have highlighted the significance and fecundity of the lines of thought suggested by the Pope. This book is offered as a path towards a fuller understanding of the profundity and richness of the love with which God fills us and wants us to communicate in our turn.
