Poland, Germany and State Power in Post-Cold War Europe
This book examines the post-Cold War Polish-German relationship and the puzzling rise of foreign and security policy differences between the two states during the 2000s. Through an investigation of four policy issues – NATO’s out-of-area mandate, European Constitution and the division of voting power in the Council, relations with Russia and the eastern neighbours, as well as EU energy policy – the author identifies the roots of their conflict in a structure of material, spatial and temporal asymmetries. Rather than treat them as currency, however, he explores the less conspicuous ways in which power is exercised and structure matters inside a community governed by shared rules and norms. In pursuing its research question, theoretical work, historical reconstructions and empirical analyses, the book combines security studies, transatlantic relations, European integration, and Polish and German politics with general theorizing and conceptual grounding in international relations and political science.

Computer Aided Control System Design
This book is about Computer Aided Control System Design (CACSD) of the direct process controller. Various methods and tools, representing an up-to-date level of development, are presented by leading experts. Several articles describe main principles and problems associated with modern direct control and with CACSD. Existing tools are presented, including packages for stability analysis of nonlinear systems, adaptive control design and integrated analysis, and simulation and tuning of controllers. The reader can observe that it is possible to develop CACSD tools by using open general packages such as Matlab or Simulab, or by providing specialised software. He can then compare both approaches and get an improved understanding of their respective advantages and disadvantages. Artificial Intelligence and Soft Computing
The two-volume set LNAI 7894 and LNCS 7895 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 12th International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Soft Computing, ICAISC 2013, held in Zakopane, Poland in June 2013. Transgression as a Rule
Whereas currently, German-Polish relations are marked by irritations, the previous phase of politics and discourse from 1990 leading up to the EU-accession of Poland was marked by an increasing stress on Europe in both countries. This was connected with changing practices of cross-border cooperation as well as a change in academic border studies. Transgression as a Rule argues that resulting from this, cross-border cooperation has become a rule. The actors negotiate new, contradictory spaces for their actions: supported by the state but partly uncomfortable with it, drawing on the powerful discourse of cooperation and trying to escape from it. Their practices can also inform the practices of border studies.
