This book, which is a sort of walk into various disciplines of physics, is mainly intended to arouse the curiosity of readers in the applied version of physics. The book will meet the requirements of the UG students of various technical universities. The lucid and interesting presentation of the subject with good and illustrative examples will fulfill the quest of knowing the subject better. Salient Features: A precise, lucid and organized approach to all the topics. All the chapters start from an elementary level, which facilitates the readers who are not well versed. Subject matter is supported with cogent illustrations, which make it interesting and easy to understand. Fully-worked examples are given after every article to relate and build the concepts. Highly focused short answer/reasoning type questions are given after each chapter to promote comprehension. Descriptive type questions of general nature are given at the end of each chapter. Brief biographies of eminent contributors to Physics are included to provide historical development. The book will also be useful for the students taking various competitive examinations.
Computers and computation are extremely important components of physics and should be integral parts of a physicist’s education. Furthermore, computational physics is reshaping the way calculations are made in all areas of physics. Intended for the physics and engineering students who have completed the introductory physics course, A First Course in Computational Physics, Second Edition covers the different types of computational problems using MATLAB with exercises developed around problems of physical interest. Topics such as root finding, Newton-Cotes integration, and ordinary differential equations are included and presented in the context of physics problems. A few topics rarely seen ...
Primarily intended for the undergraduate students of all branches of engineering, this textbook provides a sound understanding of the fundamental concepts and principles of physics in a simple and easy-to-understand language. Organized in 18 chapters, the book exposes students to the fundamentals of oscillations and waves, interference of light, diffraction, polarization, optical instruments, laser, fibre optics, mechanics and special theory of relativity. Apart from giving a detailed theoretical analysis of these topics, it also provides a deep insight on various advanced topics such as acoustics, ultrasonics and nanotechnology, along with their applications. The pedagogical aids such as solved numerical problems and review questions are also included at the end of each chapter. Key Features : • Numerous solved examples to stress on the conceptual understanding • Chapter-end model questions to probe a student’s grasp of the subject matter • Chapter-end objective type questions (with answers) for self-evaluation by the students
Physics of higher level has too many concept and remembering all them on tips all the time is not an easy task. Handbook of Physics is an important, useful and compact reference book suitable for everyday study, problem solving or exam revision for class XI – XII, Engineering & Medical entrances and other Competitions Aspirants. This book is a multi-purpose quick revision resource that contains almost all key notes, terms, Definitions and formulae that all students & professionals in physics will want to have this essential reference book within easy reach. Its unique format displays formulae clearly, places them in the context and crisply identifies describes all the variables involved, s...
This book is the first that describes the practices of any stock exchange; it makes evident a high development of practices, with puts, calls, pools, and manipulations; and it appeared as early as the seventeenth century. Not inappropriately the stock exchange described is that of Amsterdam, a city which at the date of the volume’s publication —1688 — was still the leading financial center of the world. The book, to be sure, is hardly a systematic account of the institution; the author pursued moral, philosophical, and rhetorical objectives, and, while saying a lot that seems now to be of little value, manages somehow to leave unsaid a great deal that would be of interest for us. Nevertheless, it represents, even in its peculiar form, a really important source of information about the stock exchange, and indeed about the Dutch business world of that period.
Despite the renown of the Fields Medals, J.C. Fields has been until now a rather obscure figure, and recovering details about his professional activities and personal life was not at all a simple task. This work is a triumph of persistence with far-flung archival and documentary sources, and provides a rich non-mathematical portrait of the man in all aspects of his life and career. Highly readable and replete with period detail, the book sheds useful light on the mathematical and scientific world of Fields' time, and is sure to remain the definitive biographical study. --Tom Archibald, Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, BC, Canada Drawing on a wide array of archival sources, Riehm and Hoffman...
In a brilliantly inventive work, bestselling author Simon Schama explores the enigma of 17th-century Holland, a nation that attained an unprecedented level of affluence, yet lived in constant dread of being corrupted by prosperity. Drawing on a vast array of period documents and sumptuously reproduced art, THE EMBARRASSMENT OF RICHES throbs with life on every page. 314 photos & illustrations. Copyright © Libri GmbH. This book is intended as a textbook for the first-year undergraduate engineering students of all disciplines. The text, written in a student-friendly manner, covers a wide range of topics of engineering interest both from the domains of applied and modern physics. It is meticulously tailored to cover the syllabi needs of almost all the Indian universities and institutes. With its exhaustive treatment of different topics in one volume, it relieves the engineering students of the arduous task of referring to several books. Besides engineering students, this book will be equally useful to the BSc (Physics) students of different universities. KEY FEATURES Simple and clear diagrams throughout the book help students in understanding the concepts clearly. Numerous in-chapter solved problems, chapter-end unsolved problems (with answers) and review questions assist students in assimilating the theory comprehensively. A large number of objective type questions at the end of each chapter help students in testing their knowledge of the theory.
An integral route in the acquisition of knowledge in the field of theoretical Atomic Collision Physics. The book offers a broad yet comprehensive introduction to advanced topics of Atomic and Molecular Collision Physics, covering all relevant calculations, systems, collisions, data and diagnostics.
The freedom of the seas -- meaning both the oceans of the world and coastal waters -- has been among the most contentious issues in international law for the past four hundred years. The most influential argument in favour of freedom of navigation, trade, and fishing was that put forth by the Dutch theorist Hugo Grotius in his 1609 'Mare Liberum'. "The Free Sea" was originally published in order to buttress Dutch claims of access to the lucrative markets of the East Indies. It had been composed as the twelfth chapter of a larger work, "De Jure Praedae" ('On the Law of Prize and Booty'), which Grotius had written to defend the Dutch East India Company's capture in 1603 of a rich Portuguese me...
