Phase Change Memory
As conventional memory technologies such as DRAM and Flash run into scaling challenges, architects and system designers are forced to look at alternative technologies for building future computer systems. This synthesis lecture begins by listing the requirements for a next generation memory technology and briefly surveys the landscape of novel non-volatile memories. Among these, Phase Change Memory (PCM) is emerging as a leading contender, and the authors discuss the material, device, and circuit advances underlying this exciting technology. The lecture then describes architectural solutions to enable PCM for main memories. Finally, the authors explore the impact of such byte-addressable non-volatile memories on future storage and system designs. Film Studies. Asian Studies. This is the latest in Seoul Selection's series on Korea's ranking filmmakers. Written by Kim Young-jin, one of Korea's foremost film critics, the book--which includes interviews, a biography, filmography and synopses--examines the cinematic world of Lee Chang-dong, widely hailed as one of Korea's top directors, despite having produced only four films to date. Lee's films embrace the scars of Korean history and reality as well as the illusory nature of the film medium. His latest work Secret Sunshine, a comeback film of sorts as Lee returns to directing after a stint as Korea's Minister of Culture, has been invited to the Cannes Film Festival. His filmography includes Green Fish, Oasis, and Peppermint Candy.
Computational Physiology
This open access volume compiles student reports from the 2023 Simula Summer School in Computational Physiology. The reports provide an overview of some tools available to model physiology in excitable tissues across scales and scientific questions. In 2023, Simula held the ninth annual Summer School in Computational Physiology in collaboration with the University of Oslo (UiO) and the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). Each year, the course focuses on modeling excitable tissues, with a special interest in cardiac physiology and neuroscience. Group research projects conducted by graduate students from around the world result in reports addressing problems of physiological importance. Reports may not necessarily represent new scientific results; rather, they can reproduce or supplement earlier studies. Reports from seven of the summer projects are included as separate chapters. The topics represented include multiscale mechanics, electrophysiology, pharmacology, and machine learning. This is an open access book.
Systems Modeling and Simulation: Theory and Applications
This book constitutes the refereed post-proceedings of the third Asian Simulation Conference, AsiaSim 2004, held in Jeju Island, Korea in October 2004. The 78 revised full papers presented together with 2 invited keynote papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 178 submissions; after the conference, the papers went through another round of revision. Pastoral Leadership
In ascending to heaven, Jesus Christ gave the church the Great Commission to expand the gospel to all nations. Despite this biblical commission, it is still an unfinished task. As leaders of local churches, pastors play a crucial part in this endeavor. Pastoral leadership principles have varied widely throughout history, yet it is interesting to discover the similarities between pastoral leadership principles practiced by John Chrysostom (AD 347-407) in Antioch and Constantinople, and Won Sang Lee (1937-) in Washington, DC. Despite ministering 1600 years apart, both pastors share the same core values: care for people, Christ-like character, biblical preaching, and world missions. This suggests that continued emphasis on these principles will play a significant role in fulfilling the Great Commission, independent of time and place.
