Molecular Characterization and Analysis of Polymers

  • Type: Book

  • Publisher: Elsevier

Written by expert contributors from the academic and industrial sectors, this book presents traditional and modern approaches to polymer characterization and analysis. The emphasis is on pragmatics, problem solving and property determination; real-world applications provide a context for key concepts. The characterizations focus on organic polymer and polymer product microstructure and composition. - Approaches molecular characterization and analysis of polymers from the viewpoint of problem-solving and polymer property characterization, rather than from a technique championing approach - Focuses on providing a means to ascertaining the optimum approach or technique(s) to solve a problem/measure a property, and thereby develop an analytical competence in the molecular characterization and analysis of real-world polymer products - Provides background on polymer chemistry and microstructure, discussions of polymer chain, morphology, degradation, and product failure and additive analysis, and considers the supporting roles of modeling and high-throughput analysis

Analytical Calorimetry

This Volume 5 in a continuing series represents the compilation of papers presented at the International Symposium on Analytical Calorimetry as part of the 185th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society, Seattle, Washington, March 20-25th. 1983. A much broader variety of topics are covered than in pre vious volumes, due to the growth in the field of Thermal Analysis. Specific topics covering such techniques as differential scanning calorimetry, combined thermogravimetric procedures, dynamic mechan ical analysis and a variety of novel kinetic analyses are covered. A wide range of material types are included in this volume such as polymers (alloys, blends and composites), fossil fuels, biological products, liquid crystals and inorganic materials. The co-editors of this volume would like to thank all the contributors for their efforts in conforming to the manuscript requirements, and for being prompt in the preparation. We would also like to thank those who presided over sessions during the course of the symposium; Professor Anselm C. Griffin, Professor Roger S. Porter and Dr. Edith A. Turi.

Physical Properties of Polymers

The third edition of this well known textbook discusses the diverse physical states and associated properties of polymeric materials. The contents of the book have been conveniently divided into two general parts, 'Physical States of Polymers' and 'Characterization Techniques'. Written by seven of the leading figures in the polymer science community, this third edition has been thoroughly updated and expanded. As in the second edition, all of the chapters contain general introductory material and comprehensive literature citations designed to give newcomers to the field an appreciation of the subject and how it fits into the general context of polymer science. Containing numerous problem sets and worked examples this third edition provides enough core material for a one semester survey course at the advanced undergraduate or graduate level.

Physical Properties of Polymers Handbook

This book offers concise information on the properties of polymeric materials, particularly those most relevant to physical chemistry and chemical physics. Extensive updates and revisions to each chapter include eleven new chapters on novel polymeric structures, reinforcing phases in polymers, and experiments on single polymer chains. The study of complex materials is highly interdisciplinary, and new findings are scattered among a large selection of scientific and engineering journals. This book brings together data from experts in the different disciplines contributing to the rapidly growing area of polymers and complex materials.

Macromolecular Science

In 1974, as we approached the National Bicentennial and the Centenary of the American Chemical Society, Professor Otto Vogl, then Chairman of the Division of Polymer Chemistry, arranged a very special symposium dedicated to a review of the history of the Divi sion. It was an extraordinary occasion which included remarks by Professors Herman Mark, Charles Marvel, William Bailey, and Charles Overberger, all past Chairmen of the Division. The Executive Committee of the Division of Polymer Chemistry felt that 1976 deserved even more attention since it was to be also the 25th, the Silver Anniversary, of the Division of Polymer Chemis try. This year would be a most appropriate one not only to revi...
